The past ten years have been an adventure filled with fruitful ministry, many wonderful and challenging surprises, and much supernatural provision. Our initiatives continue to grow and affect change in people's lives. Our mission is to R.E.A.C.H. people with good news and offer hope for their future. Join our English summer program...

 

Each summer the campers, staff and volunteers enjoy an awesome summer program in Shanghai. This past summer our camp was a 4-week Egyptian journey, discovering Respect, Perseverance, Faithfulness, and Forgiveness.  Our campers worked so hard and gave their best in the final production, "Joseph, From The Pit To The Palace".   It is always amazing to watch our campers transformed from the  first day of camp to our final production.  There are many group and individual volunteer and paid positions available for 2018 summer camp. Our camp will be extending next year from July 9 to August 17. Register to volunteer TODAY. 

   

 

SHH  is a non-profit foster home assisting the local Chinese Children's Welfare Institutes by providing pre and post-surgical care to abandoned Chinese orphan babies born with surgically correctable deformities. SHH provides a home-like environment that meets our babies' physical, emotional and developmental needs.

SHH Learning and Therapy Center Complete! 

We are so thankful to our sponsors who have made this day possible! The SHH Learning and Therapy Center has been completed, and we are ready to begin classes. This new facility will give our children a place where their minds can grow, and their bodies can be strengthened. 

 

 

 

S tarted in September 2010 with one teacher and 7 students, LBA has grown to be a full academic program with over 450 students in our Pre-Kindergarten, Primary, High School, and English studies tracks. LBA celebrated our first senior graduating class in the 2016/2017 school year.

From the beginning, God's call has been evident in our journey with the Weidner Family. 

 

My husband Paul and I first met the Weidners in Shanghai in 2011, after relocating there for Paul's job as a Marine Engineer.  As a "trailing spouse", I was looking for ways to volunteer and had heard about the Shanghai Healing Home which was run by a family who was also starting a school.  I met Christina when interviewing with her for a teaching position.  We immediately connected and knew that the Lord had planned our meeting and I became the first PK2 teacher at Learning Beyond Academy. 

 

The first time we visited a the gathering on a Sunday morning...there were many people squeezed into a living room, with people stacked on the stairs. In that crowded room, singing praise songs in a foreign language, the presence of Lord was so obvious that we never doubted for a second that this was the community we were called to. It was easy to see the work that was happening in China and that He was using the Weidners and we wanted to be a part of it. 

 

After 2 years of fellowship and serving in the community, Paul's career brought us back to the US and we found ourselves having to say goodbye to our precious friends, but we knew we had more to do in China. 

 

God confirmed His plan to  Paul and I  through a verse in Matthew 16: Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."  We both agreed that we wanted to "follow" and that, for this season, Jesus had a place for us in Shanghai. After careful consideration, we decided to leave Paul's professional career directly and sell all our worldly possessions to make a commitment for our family to join the team in Shanghai.

 

These 3 years have been an ever-transitioning time for our day-to-day responsibilities.  We have seen the gatherings go from ballrooms to living rooms and everything in between, participated with LBA when it was a school of 60 students to now 300+, and SHH grow from a few bedrooms to it's own 3-story building and Learning & Therapy center. We depend on God's grace daily, but there has never been any wavering in our commitment to His call on our lives and the joy we receive in following Him. How happy we are that He chose us to partner with these dear friends and the amazing work happening here! 

Our wonderful ELS team gathered together for a dinner to celebrate and show appreciation for all the hard work and dedication of our ELS family.
