Board of Supervisors Meeting Highlights - November 1 

RMU-TV Recognized for Emmy Win
The Board of Supervisors honored RMU-TV for earning a college Emmy at the 35th Annual Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards. RMU's Colonial Sports Network crew received the award for best Live Sports Event for team coverage of a men's basketball game against Bryant. Producer Dylan McKenna and Director Dakota Lamb accepted the proclamation along with Michael DiLauro, Academic Media Center Director.

The Board of Supervisors regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Watch live on MAG-TV, Comcast channel 18 or Verizon channel 37. The meetings are rebroadcast throughout the month on MAG-TV. Check the website for times. You can also watch a recording online. View the meeting agendas in advance here.
 
Stoops Ferry Road Bridge Replacement Meeting

There will be a public meeting to
inform residents of the Stoops Ferry Road bridge replacement project. The project consists of removing the existing concrete bridge which carries State Route 51 over Flaugherty Run. The bridge is showing signs of deterioration and plans are to replace it with a new wider structure to accommodate a left turn lane. Plans also include reconstructing and widening the existing roadway, addition of a traffic signal and replacing the sidewalk across the proposed bridge. 
Veterans Day Luncheon

Moon Township Parks and Recreation is hosting a Veterans Day spaghetti lunch to thank local military men and women for their service. The lunch is free to veterans and their families. Stop by Robin Hill Center, located at 949 Thorn Run Road, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10 for spaghetti, meatballs and salad. Be sure to RSVP by Monday, November 6 by calling 412.262.1703.

Brunch with Santa
Saturday, December 2

Bring the kids for a chance to meet and eat with the big guy at the firehouse at  1000 Beaver Grade Road. Kids can deliver their wishes to Santa. Tickets are $5 per person. Please register in advance by November 27. Call 412.262.1703 for more information.



Light Up Night

All Moon Township families are invited to a magical evening! Entertainment includes Christmas hay rides, the Josh & Gab Christmas Show, arts and crafts, ice carving, music from the Moon Area High School Band, cookies and hot chocolate. Santa will join us at 6:30 p.m. for the tree lighting. This is a free event.

MTVFC Sportsmen's Bash Returns in April
Saturday, April 21

The annual Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company Sportsmen's Bash will be  held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 12-7 p.m. at the Public Safety Building located at 1000 Beaver Grade Road. Tickets, which include food and refreshments, are available for a $30 donation. Contact a fireman or visit one of the fire stations on Mondays at 7 p.m. to obtain a ticket.
                 
Fall Yard Waste Collection

The Moon Township Public Works department provides the following services to help residents clean up their yards before winter. As a reminder, there will be no pickups on Veterans Day (observed November 10), Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving.

Compost Dropoff
Saturdays & Sundays through December 10
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Downes Fire Station

Residents may drop off yard waste to be composted, including tree limbs, leaves and plant matter. Tree limbs should not exceed six feet in length and four inches in diameter, and should not be bundled or tied. Please notify Public Works at 412.262.1700 if you will be dropping off waste or picking up compost or wood chips outside of the posted hours.

Curbside Leaf Pickup
Monday - Friday through December 1

The schedule follows residents' regular garbage collection. Simply place leaves at the curb by 8 a.m. on pickup day. Please remember to put leaves in biodegradable paper bags. Loose leaves and leaves in plastic bags or boxes will not be picked up.

Curbside Tree Branch Pickup
Monday - Friday through December 1

The schedule follows residents' regular garbage collection. Please place branches at the curb no later than 8 a.m. on pickup day. Tree branches should not exceed six feet in length and four inches in diameter, and not be bundled or tied.
 


2017 Property Tax Information

Township of Moon Property Tax
The Moon Township property tax office is now collecting the 10% penalty amount which is collected through December 31, 2017. Any Township of Moon property taxes that remain outstanding after December 31 will be turned over to the delinquent tax collector as appointed by the Township of Moon. 
 
Moon Area School District Property Tax
The property tax office is collecting the the 10% penalty amount through December 31, 2017. After December 31, all unpaid Moon Area School District property taxes will be turned over to the Law Offices of Weiss Burkardt Kramer, 412.391.0160. 

Change of Address?
If you have any changes in mailing address or ownership, you must notify the Moon property tax office at 412.299.7446 as well as Allegheny County Treasurer John Weinstein at 412.350.4100.

Waste Management at Your Door Program

Can't make it to one of our recycling days? Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials.

There are three ways to schedule a collection:
1. Online at www.WMatYourDoor.com
2. Call 800.449.7587

After scheduling your collection date and time, a Waste Management representative will provide you with information and instructions for preparing your collection. More information on the program and a list of accepted materials can be found through the program's website at www.WMatYourDoor.com or by calling a representative at 800.449.7587.
