SAUSD HOSTS SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS
The Santa Ana Unified School District is hosting more than 70 Summer Learning programs this year at schools across the District. Students are acquiring new skills through both our Engage 360 and summer enrichment programs. At MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate, for example, students learned to strengthen their prose during the Summer Writing Academy. At Heninger Elementary, students in the College Bound program visited USC, UCLA and Cal State Fullerton. And the efforts of the SAUSD Summer Music Camp recently culminated in the production of "The Little Mermaid," featuring students in grades 4 through 12 from schools across the District. These programs not only keep our students engaged and combat what is typically noted as the "summer slide" but they also reinforce critical skills such as reading, writing and critical thinking, building on the student's creativity and interests.
BACK TO SCHOOL BASH PLANNED FOR AUGUST 5, 2017

For the first time, the District will be hosting a Welcome Back to School Bash at the Santa Ana Public Schools Sports Complex on Saturday, August 5, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. to help our students prepare for the 2017-18 academic year. During this fun-filled and educational event, students will receive free backpacks and school supplies, free health screenings from our partners, support with registration and enrolling in our district, free samples of food from Nutrition Services, and prizes and giveaways from La Ranchera 96.7 FM. There will also be activities and student entertainment, and information on SAUSD programs.
SANTA ANA PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION PROVIDES $50,000 FOR SAT PREP PROGRAM

SAUSD has been supported for the last several years by the Santa Ana Public Schools Foundation which has hosted the annual Artspiration event, a district wide student art showcase as well as partnering in the State of the District event each year. Since its inception the foundation has also provided scholarships and mini-grants for teachers. This school year, the group is increasing its support with a focus on college readiness. This week, the Board of Education approved an MOU with College Spring and the Santa Ana Public Schools Foundation for a pilot SAT prep program at Century and Godinez Fundamental High Schools. Up to 100 juniors and seniors will receive College Spring SAT prep at each site through funding from the foundation.
SANTA ANA ASSISTANCE LEAGUE SUPPORTS SAUSD STUDENTS THROUGH OPERATION SCHOOL BELL

The Santa Ana Assistance League continues to support Santa Ana Unified students each year through Operation School Bell by providing thousands of uniforms, shoes, undergarments, toiletries, and backpacks to get our students off to a good start. Many of our staff members, including Superintendent Dr. Stefanie Phillips, are scheduled to volunteer in this generous effort. The program continues until August 10, 2017.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS AUGUST 14, 2017
The first day of school is August 14, 2017 and we are fervently preparing for the arrival of our students, teachers and staff back for a new year of learning and growth. The excitement is building as we conclude our summer programs and begin the final preparations for the 2017-18 school year.

NEW CONTINUING EDUCATION CENTER TO BENEFIT SAUSD PARENTS AND EMPLOYEES

Santa Ana Unified has a continuing partnership with the Rancho Santiago Community College District. This year we entered into agreement to open a joint facility on 4th Street. Part of the property is the Advanced Learning Academy Early Learning Program operated by SAUSD, the other portion will open as the Continuing Education Center (CEC) operated by Santa Ana College. At the CEC, our employees and parents will have access to high quality GED, ESL, and other certificate and workforce professional development programs that will benefit our workforce and the entire community.
