Second Sunday of Advent | December 4, 2016
Christians prepare for celebrating the birth of Jesus by remembering the longing of the Jews for a Messiah.   The second Sunday of Advent is Peace.

"Repent!  For the kingdom of heaven has come near!" (Matt. 3:2)
Scriptures: Isaiah 11:1-10 & Matthew 3:1-12

John the Baptist's words shake us to the core. He makes clear that the way to prepare for Christ's coming is to repent. Using Isaiah's words, he reminds us that the way of peace is the way of righteousness and forgiveness.  Consider where you need peace.  Inhale deeply and exhale. Do this throughout the day.  With each inhale, breathe in peace; with each exhale, breathe out peace.

"God, you know the places in our lives that are tight with tension and unrest. With each breath in and each breath out, help us to know more deeply the way of peace. Amen."
Notes from Sunday's Sermon
"A PROMISE, A PROBLEM, and A PRAISE!" ( Luke 1:46-48

All Mary has is a promise and some problems, but she makes the promise bigger than the problems so the problems don't prohibit her praise. Why? Because she is trusting in the Promise. Because she knows that if God said it, he can back it up! Somebody today needs to learn how to praise on a promise in spite of the problems that seem to be standing in your way. You  need to learn how to thank God for what he has told you he is going to do. You don't need to have it before you learn to shout about it. As a matter of fact, it's your praise that will help you get through the problems.

Your praise becomes the power that propels you through your problems. Why? Because you are magnifying God, making God bigger than what is trying to stand in your way, and while it might be too much for you, it's not too much for God. I need to preach this because the devil is causing too many of us to let difficulties derail us from our destiny. He is causing us to look at what we have to go through on the way to the blessing and trying to make us give up and miscarry what God has impregnated within us.

Our Mission...
The Memorial Tabernacle Church has come together by the Holy Spirit for the specific purpose of preaching and teaching the word of God, (the Bible), and about Jesus Christ, God's son, and to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of God to the North Oakland Community and its environs; to bring healing to the brokenhearted and deliverance to the oppressed.
Holy Baptism Service: Take The Next Step
Preparation Classes in December; Service: Sunday, December 25, 2016

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," - Matthew 28:19 NKJV

Baptism is the first and fundamental sacrament of Christian life, the gateway to all other sacraments. The baptism is a time of celebration for the entire community of believers.  As written in our church handbook, one question that seems never to be answered is, "What about baptism?" Baptism is a vital part of the believers' life, yet there seems to be a great deal of confusion as to the importance of baptism, as well as the method in which we should baptize.

Pastor and our ministerial leaders will lead Baptism Preparation Classes during the month of December for those desiring to take the next step in the "outward sign" of accepting Jesus as their Savior.  Participation in these classes is mandatory prior to baptism.  Please communicate your desire to [email protected], and more details will be provided.  Our Baptism Service will be Sunday, December 25 following morning worship.
