Annual Meeting Train
Pulls Into Final Station
Dr. Katherine Patterson, left, was installed as MAFP President by AAFP's Dr. Robert Wergin.

We had a great Annual Meeting last week in Destin, FL! Total attendance was 400 -- with about 130 physicians, 80 exhibit booths and lots of family members in attendance, we brought the train into the final station after being "On Track" for a terrific year!
Dr. Aultman
Dr. Katherine Patterson of Indianola is the 2017-18 MAFP President, having been installed at our Annual Dinner by AAFP Board Member Dr. Robert Wergin.
Also that night, Dr. Isaac Aultman of Jackson was recognized as the 2017 MAFP Family Physician of the Year. Both Patterson and Aultman will be featured in a future issue of the newsletter and the Mississippi Family Physician journal.
Don't forget to mark your calendar for next year's Annual Meeting, which will be held July 21-25 at Baytowne Conference Center in Destin, FL.
Join MAFP for Lunch at
MSMA Annual Meeting Aug. 12
MAFP will host a lunch Saturday, August 12, during the Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA) House of Delegates and Annual Meeting. We will honor one of our own, incoming MSMA President Dr. William M. Grantham of Madison, who will be inaugurated that night at 7:30 pm.  The luncheon will be held at the Jackson Hilton, 11:30 am to 1 pm.
ABFM Wants You
to Sign Up for
PRIME Registry,
At No Charge
MAFP is partnering with the American Board of Family Medicine to promote PRIME Registry, which can help you use the data from your EHR to view any performance gaps, reduce reporting burden, and identify gaps in care at the individual patient level.
ABFM announced July 7 that it is offering the PRIME Registry FREE to the first 2,000 board-certified family physicians who sign up. One major advantage of this offer is that you can also report for MIPS for free through PRIME - though physicians must sign up before July 31, 2017, to be ready to report for the 2017 MIPS performance period (the ABFM will continue to enroll Diplomates for free until the 2,000 slots are exhausted).
PRIME is currently supporting hundreds of family physicians in reporting data for several federal practice transformation demonstrations including TCPI and CPC Plus, in addition to MIPS as part of the Medicare Quality Payment Program. E-mail [email protected] to sign up.
Mississippi's Prescription Monitoring Program is Part of Larger Network
PMP InterConnect , an online network that allows state Prescription Monitoring Programs to share patient-specific data across state lines, is your tool to find out patient-specific data from other states.
At present, 16 states have agreements with Mississippi that allow Mississippi physicians to view patient-specific data, including: AL, AZ, AR, ID, IL, KS, LA, MA, MI, MN, NM, ND, RI, SC, TN and TX. This list includes all of Mississippi's border states.
Currently, 42 total states participate in the program, administered by t he National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.  Since each state's agreement with Mississippi is different, access sometimes varies.  For example, Alabama only enacted a law in 2017 to participate, but their law specifies that only physicians can view Alabama's information (pharmacists and other medical professionals can't see it).
All Mississippi physicians with an active DEA have been required to register for the Prescription Monitoring Program since 2013. Some physicians allow delegates to enter and view data on their behalf. It is important to know that delegates are NOT allowed to view other states' data - only registered practitioners can see this information.
To search for other states' patient-specific data, log in to Mississippi's PMP or call them for assistance at 1-855-567-4767.
