Stay up to date!
From Sunday:
Remember Jesus is trying to explain what the kingdom of God is really like
  • and while in the ancient world fathers would never tell their sons they love them, here is dad saying just that to both sons.
  • In the ancient world, all sons wanted to be the first born and favored, yet in the kingdom all are equal.
  • While the brothers have this rivalry going on between them for the inheritance, Jesus is saying there is more than enough for all in God's kingdom.
And we know from our study of the parables that what Jesus means is we need to put aside our differences, break down the barriers between us, and share what we have so there is enough for all.  The kingdom of God is not based on competition and rivalry but on cooperation. And that is not something that the Pharisees want to hear.
