Known - By Britney Lee

"Known"

V1:
Set the table that God built wide
Save a place for poor and rich by your side
Set the table that God made strong
Let us sing about how we all belong

Chorus:
Welcome home
Welcome home
Even though a thousand doors may shut
This is where you're known
Welcome home
Welcome home
There's enough room for you here

V2:
Set the table to feed the ones
Who were told there were reasons they were unloved
Set the table to celebrate
Any wounded child who found their way
Any wounded child who has hope today

Chorus:
And welcome them home
Welcome home
Even though a thousand doors may shut
This is where you're known
Welcome home
Welcome home
There's enough room for us here

Bridge:
Until all are here, none are fully here
I accept the grace, to lay down all my fear
Until all are here, none are fully here
I accept the grace, to lay down all my fear

Chorus:
And welcome you home
Welcome home
Even though a thousand doors may shut
This is where you're known
Welcome home
Welcome home
There's enough room
There will always be enough room for you here

I was inspired to write this song by a friend who had recently described to me a community of faith where he finally felt like he could be all of himself. Knowing how tremendous and tremendously talented he is, I grieved for all of the places up to that point that had missed out on the opportunity of getting to experience all of him due to the lines that had been drawn of who could and could not "be at the table." Simultaneously, I grieved for all of the times in my own history that I too have been a line-drawer. It has become my prayer that my fear of change, or of being wrong, or of being inconvenienced would not keep me from remembering that I am a part of a Body that is only fully a body when all of its parts are here.
