Principal's Message
Greetings Fairmeadow Community,

Welcome to a new school year at Fairmeadow Elementary School! This year promises to be full of exploration, curiosity, engagement, and learning for every single one of our Fairmeadow Firebird students. Let's partner together to ensure that your child experiences a positive year of academic, social, and creative growth, and that joy and intrigue are a regular part of the school day. Come Tuesday, it's time to get started!

I hope to see you at two upcoming events this week, the Welcome Back Coffee on Tuesday and the Welcome Back Social on Friday. Right after drop off on the first day of school the PTA will host a Welcome Back gathering with warm drinks and great conversation. Come on out to the blacktop at 8:30 am on Tuesday! This Friday, August 18th we welcome our whole school community for the Welcome Back Social from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Fairmeadow. Please join us to celebrate the start of another school year with tacos, a side-dish potluck, games, and self-guided tours of some of the unique learning environments at Fairmeadow. Please plan to bring back your PTA one-check form from your welcome packet, and you will be entered into a raffle full of fun and exciting prizes! I hope to see you and your family there!

On the morning of Monday, August 21st we will be able to view a partial solar eclipse in Palo Alto. This is a unique and rare opportunity to see this special occurrence, and one that we plan to acknowledge and celebrate at our school. We are planning for a community eclipse viewing from 10 am to 10:30 am on August 21st. Each child will be provided with an eclipse viewer to protect their eyes, and all classes with gather on the field at 10 am to observe the eclipse. At 10:30 am classes will return to their rooms. Parents are invited to participate with each class, helping to ensure that students keep their eclipse viewers over their eyes when viewing the eclipse and discussing observations with students in the class. At 10:30 am I will welcome parents to join me in the MP Room and discuss strategies to continue the scientific conversation at home, and to write eclipse-day-letters to the children. Please communicate with your child's teacher if you plan to attend with the class.

I look forward to welcoming our children back to school this Tuesday. Let's have a joyful year ahead!
