Girl in STEM at Tulane

The eighth semi-annual Girls  in  STEM  at  Tulane  (GiST)  event will be November  12th, 2016.  This program provides fifth through seventh grade girls with the opportunity to meet and work with women role models in STEM fields. Workshops developed and offered by faculty and student teams empower girls to inquire, investigate, and discover in a  positive  environment.  Our  goal  is  to  open  the  doors  wide  and  welcome  young students  to  careers  in  STEM  fields  by  encouraging  creative  thinking,  promoting self-esteem, and increasing awareness of the opportunities that await them. Workshops  this  semester  included  the  science  of  fluids,  tissue  engineering, creative  computation  with  Scratch,  biological  anthropology,  and  the  secret  world of fungi. We are expecting over 200 girls in attendance.

The event will run from approximately 8am to 3pm. There's a small fee ($10) and girls all receive lunch, snacks, and a t-shirt in addition to touring Tulane laboratories and getting some fun hands on experiences in STEM. Space is limited so we encourage girls in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade to apply now!

If you are in 8th-12th grade, have already attended GiST, like STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), and would like to get more involved, we'd love to have you apply for our leaders program! You could be an assistant group leader or work with our professors and students in running one of your favorite workshops. You must be available from 9:00am-3:00pm on November 12th. There are a limited number of spaces, so check out our Leadership Application Form now!

Please spread the word and encourage the middle school girls, parents, and teachers you know to get involved with GiST!

More information can be found on our website: http://gist.tulane.edu. Please email us at gist@tulane.edu if you have any questions.
