Dear Friars and Friends,

I was reading a Buddhist magazine, and in an interview of a woman who has authored Buddhist books noted that her favorite prayer disciple right now is "the Catholic Welcoming Prayer." I never heard of that, so I found it for you (it's of the contemplative prayer style taught by Thomas Keating).

Welcome, welcome, welcome.
I welcome everything that comes to me in this moment
because I know it is for my healing.
I welcome all thoughts, feelings, emotions, persons, situations and conditions.
I let go of my desire for security.
I let go of my desire for approval.
I let go of my desire for control.
I let go of my desire to change any situation, condition, person, or myself.
I open to the love and presence of God and the healing action and grace within.

--- Mary Mrozowski 1925-1993

.... I hope summer is providing you many opportunities for experimenting with new forms of prayer....

 ....peace....Mark

Undocumented Driver's Licenses

Nearly a million undocumented drivers could be licensed in California by the end of the year.

Through June 2017, the Department of Motor Vehicles has issued approximately 905,000 driver's licenses under Assembly Bill 60, the law requiring applicants to prove only their identity and California residency, rather than their legal presence in the state.

Passed in 2013, after more than 15 years of lobbying by advocates, AB 60 was intended to bolster public safety and reduce penalties for undocumented immigrants who drive. When it  finally took effect at the beginning of 2015, making California the 10th state to offer driver's licenses to immigrants living in the country illegally, the response was so immense that it  doubled initial expectations.

Pope Francis: Message to G20

Pope Francis sent a Message to the participants in the G20 meeting that took place in Germany July 7-8. The Message was addressed to the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, and details what the Holy Father recognizes as four principles of action for the building of fraternal, just and peaceful societies: time is greater than space; unity prevails over conflict; realities are more important than ideas;  and the whole is greater than the part .

Pope Francis Endorses Laudato Si' Pledge

Laudato Si' Pledge:

Answering Pope Francis' urgent call in Laudato Si', I pledge to:

1) Pray for and with creation
2) Live more simply
3) Advocate to protect our common home.

The goal is to get at least 1 million Catholics to  sign the pledge, to bring the encyclical to life. Church leaders from all continents supported this campaign launch with strong messages about the importance of Laudato Si' and the need to take action.
