SAUSD DISTRIBUTES NEARLY 3,000 BACKPACKS TO STUDENTS AT FIRST BACK TO SCHOOL BASH

To kick off the new school year, on Saturday, August 5, SAUSD hosted its inaugural Back to School Bash at the Santa Ana Public Schools Sports Complex, where staff and volunteers distributed nearly 3,000 backpacks and supplies to SAUSD students. Sponsored and supported by over 85 corporate and local business partners, our families were able to learn more about the programs and resources that the District offers, visit 70 booths that included such services as dental and eye screenings, literacy support for our young readers, enrichment opportunities for youth, and enjoy entertainment from our students, extended learning partners, and Santa Ana's favorite local radio station La Ranchera. In addition, Nutrition Services fed all of our guests with samples from the school lunch menu. This provided parents an opportunity to taste and learn what their children will be eating at school. STAFF AND STUDENTS TO TAKE PLEDGE ON FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

When the doors of learning open on the first day of school, students throughout the district will have the opportunity to begin the day with a solemn pledge. Young learners in the seventh largest district in the state of California will kick off the day with a district tailored campaign called "I Pledge" that helps students to look ahead to high school graduation and set goals to make sure they graduate on time and further their education in college or directly into the workforce with 21st century skills. All staff members have been encouraged to wear their college gear from their alma mater or favorite college or occupation. To watch a video about the Pledge, click HERE.

SAUSD SELECTED TO BECOME XQ SCHOOL COHORT WITH CIRCULOS HIGH SCHOOL

XQ Institute will award $2.5 million dollars over the next five years to SAUSD to create Circulos High School, a small learning community within a high school, to engage students, provide them with community-based projects, and learning seminars that will successfully prepare them for an enriching life after graduating from high school. SAUSD MANAGEMENT TEAM SPEND TIME TEAM BUILDING AND PREPARING FOR SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR

The SAUSD management team spent two days together this summer to prepare for the new school year. Over the course of Leadership Symposium, which was held at Saddleback High School on August 3-4, administrators received an address from members of the Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Stefanie Phillips. They also attended a host of workshops that were prepared and presented by their fellow peers. One of the highlights of the Symposium was the SAUSD alumni panel that featured three SAUSD graduates. The alumni talked about what worked well for them in SAUSD and what areas could be improved. Team members also participated in an emergency preparedness training to ensure that they were equipped in the event of an emergency in the District.
