Long Beach Peninsula Media Updates
New for Fall-Winter 2016
  • New website URL: www.VisitLongBeachPeninsula.com. FunBeach.com redirects to the new URL, which offers a distinctive geographic marker and is more in-line with industry standards.
  • LBP industry specials.  An evolving collaboration between businesses and organizations should lead to "industry specials" for hospitality workers looking to break from the grind and visit the coast.  The travel and tourism industry leans heavily on its employees and this special is a way to return the favor to these hard-working folks. The specials include discounted midweek stays for hospitality industry workers.
  • Modern exploration - geocaching, Pokemon Go, stamp book. Founded on exploration, Washington's Long Beach Peninsula is fast becoming a hotspot for digital discovery. More than 150 hidden geocaches dot the Peninsula and the Pokemon Go craze has taken hold.
  • USA Today Dog-friendly beach; pet-friendly vibeThe Long Beach Peninsula was voted among USA Today's Readers' Choice 2016 Best Dog Friendly Beach, landing in No. 6 on the list. Most Peninsula lodging properties allow four-legged friends and many Peninsula restaurants and businesses make room for Fido. And our 28 miles of beach? Doggie heaven.
  • Sunset Travel Award Best Beach Town runner-up. The Long Beach Peninsula in May was named a finalist for Sunset Magazine's Travel Awards in the "Best Beach Town" category. Other nominees included destinations Santa Barbara, Calif., Santa Monica, Calif., Ventura, Calif., and the winner, Tofino, B.C. Long Beach finished in second place.
  • Coastal Christmas events. From the Crab Pot Christmas Tree to the Tuba Christmas Concert, there's nothing like a coastal Christmas on the Long Beach Peninsula. Events are whimsical and reflect life by the sea.
  • Shelburne changes. The illustrious and historic Shelburne Inn, which celebrated 120 years of continuous operation in 2016, underwent a change of management and is undergoing a rebranding effort. An oyster bar, collaborative dinners and events and more are taking place at one of the oldest inns on the West Coast.
  • Best Western opens. One of the newest Long Beach Peninsula hotels is an established hospitality name - Best Western. Find fully remodeled rooms, a social and dining space and central locality with this national favorite.
  • Work @ the beach (Wi-Fi). Put some distance between yourself and work, but stay connected during your stay at the beach. Wi-Fi is available
  • Charging stations. The Peninsula's first public, free-to-use electric car charging station is expected to come online in Long Beach in late 2016 or early 2017. The station should be located on Oregon Street near Third Street. It will compliment existing stations at Adrift Hotel, the Shelburne Inn and Ocean Park Resort.
  • Harvest season. Autumn is harvest season in Pacific County. From the land comes cranberries and wild mushrooms, and from the sea and shore comes razor clams and Dungeness crab. Cranberries and clams are among the Peninsula's original exports and continue to define this area of southwestern Washington.

Story Ideas
  • All about seafood.Local markets serve fans of fresh, while local charters can help land you to the big one. The best crab, salmon, tuna, oysters and clams can be found at seafood markets up and down the Long Beach Peninsula. Foraging, clamming and oystering opportunities abound.
  • Pet-friendly Peninsula. From pet pampering at hotels to dog-centric events, the Long Beach Peninsula is crazy for canines.  Known colloquially as the "World's Longest Beach", the Long Beach Peninsula's 28 miles of sand might be the "World's Longest Doggie Playground". The Adrift Hotel, for example, welcomes all pets, sells fun treats in its lobby and sometimes offers pet-friendly specials.
  • Geocaching. Bolstered by the Cache Dash Splash event in September, geocaching is gaining a grip on the Long Beach Peninsula. More than 150 geocaches are hidden up and down the Long Beach Peninsula and more are being added regularly. Enjoy modern-day exploration in the land of Lewis & Clark.
  • Industry specials. Anyone working in the hospitality industry knows that the term "weekend" is relative to one's shift, where the work week might end on a Monday or Wednesday. These hard-working folks spend Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at work, so Long Beach's Adrift Hotel is offering them a midweek retreat. "Industry specials" are available to all hospitality workers, from bartenders to front desk staff to housekeeping, because we like to take care of the folks who take care of us.
  • Work at the beach. Okay, it's not everyone's idea of a perfect getaway, but we sometimes have to crank out a bit of work even when we're away on holiday. Wi-Fi access across the Long Beach Peninsula is continually expanding, and now it's even possible to blog from the beach. Or crank out expense reports. Or polish proposals. You get the idea.
  • Birding. Birding opportunities abound throughout Pacific County, home to more than 300 native bird species. Bald eagles, osprey, pelicans, great blue herons and many, many more birds can be found throughout the county. Habitats include tidal wetlands, beach dunes and old-growth forest.
