August is typically a slow time for economic news. At the national level, the headlines have been about the continued strong hiring picture, which drove unemployment down to 4.3%, and the 2.6 growth in GDP during the second quarter. The latter is likely to be revised (upward if history is a clue) but is not expected to push beyond the range of 2% to 2.8%. 

The regional market remains more upbeat than the overall economy. Designers continue to be busy. The trend towards newer offices is accelerating (read more in the fall DevelopingPittsburgh) and a handful of users are in the market looking for 60,000 sq. ft. and up. Several of these companies are searching in the CBD and its fringes because their suburban locations are making it harder to recruit workers.
