Stoughton High School is seeking community volunteers to help work with students in the areas of reading and math during the school's study hall period(s).

 

Adult volunteers are needed for work that includes helping students revise and edit papers and working with students on math problems in subjects such as algebra and geometry. Volunteers will work under the guidance of SHS staff who supervise the study halls and help our students strengthen critical learning skills.

 

Academic study hall periods go on throughout the school day at SHS, and we welcome whatever support volunteers can lend, whether that is for a full study hall (about 50 minutes) or less.

Dear River Bluff and Stoughton High School families,

As the new school year approaches, we are ramping up for our expanded Digital Learning program. As you may recall, as part of that program, each student in grades 6-12 will be issued a district Chromebook for the 2017-18 school year. 

Information about this initiative is available on our website, but our staff will also be on hand during Central Registration on August 17 and 22 at Stoughton High School to talk about the 1:1 Chromebook program. Stoughton schools, Dane County form mental health partnership

This school year (2017-18), Dane County and the Stoughton Area School District are joining together to help meet the mental health needs of Stoughton students in crisis.

The county and Stoughton schools are partnering to provide Building Bridges, a Mental Health Crisis Team program that focuses on connecting youth with critical mental health services and resources before a crisis takes place.

Dane County and Stoughton schools will jointly fund two mental health experts to serve 4-year-old kindergarten through eighth-grade students with immediate mental health needs, according to a press release from the office of Dane County Executive Joe Parisi.

"The Building Bridges Mental Health Crisis Teams increase student success by providing proactive responses to stressors, growing staff's understanding of mental health issues, and connecting schools, families, and students with needed resources," the release said.  "There is no cost to families for services offered through the program."

The team will serve River Bluff Middle School and Fox Prairie, Kegonsa and Sandhill elementary schools.

An energy-efficiency program at the Stoughton Area School District has been highlighted in a case study in LED lighting conversion.

The case study compiled by Upper 90 Energy, a company that focuses on LED lighting retro-fit solutions, highlights work at the swimming pool and Performing Arts Center at Stoughton High School. This year, our district converted the lighting at those two facilities into LED (light-emitting diode) lighting, including the replacement and/or retrofitting of all fixtures with LED technology to produce more light and reduce energy usage.

"The light levels were measured and are either maintained or increased in all affected areas," the case study states.

SASD is projected to realize an estimated $6,500 in annual electric savings and $3,000 in annual maintenance savings from the project, which is considered to be maintenance-free for five years due to the installation process and the manufacturer's warranties. SASD will also receive a one-time $2,345 rebate from Focus on Energy, a statewide energy efficiency program, due to the work.

"The light-emitting diode (LED) is one of today's most energy-efficient and rapidly-developing lighting technologies," according to Energy.gov. "Quality LED light bulbs last longer, are more durable, and offer comparable or better light quality than other types of lighting."

Central Registration for the 2017-18 school year will take place Aug. 17 and 22 at Stoughton High School. Please visit our  Central Registration page for more information.  The Aug. 17 session will go from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., while the Aug. 22 session will go from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Families should use the Devonshire Road entrance, Door No. 24, by the Pool.

We at the Stoughton Area School District wanted to give you a heads up about a staff training program that will be taking place at each of our five school buildings on Tuesday, August 29.

At SASD, we are in the process of enhancing our security protocols. As part of that effort, we are transitioning to a new emergency response protocol that includes active shooter scenarios.

Therefore, on the 29th, many of our staff will participate in instructor-led training scenarios in cooperation with local law enforcement. You might see increased activity or police presence on the five campuses (Fox Prairie, Kegonsa and Sandhill elementary schools; River Bluff Middle School; and Stoughton High School) on that day; please do not be alarmed, these activities are part of the training program for our staff. During these training, all buildings will be locked from 8 a.m. to noon. Some staff already underwent this training at River Bluff in June.
