Classes Resume
Thank You!
Thank you so much to all the students, teachers and volunteers who put together an incredible Chanukah Play. Special thanks to Morah Miller for producing and directing the play and to Morah Adina for directing drama.

Thank you to Mrs. Mashiah for her world famous and delicious sufganiyot.
Chanukah Activities
We have been enjoying many exciting and delicious celebrations this past week at Akiva Academy. Many classes, teachers, and volunteers have been building, baking, and enjoying the special activities! The Menorah Contest had an amazing total of 18 entries. It was very interesting to hear the discussions occurring when students and adults walked past the display. Thank you to all those students who participated in this event.

The Akiva Chanukah Concert held on December 15th was a great success. We held two performances to accommodate our growing Akiva family. The Cardel Theatre was filled with family and friends enjoying their children performing from Nursery to Grade 9. The teachers and students did a wonderful job entertaining all who attended. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this evening such a success.

Have a wonderful and relaxing Winter Break,
Mr. John Hadden

Menorah Contest
Thank you to the events planning committee of Mrs. Bassin, Mrs. Jacobs and Mrs. Wilms for organizing a successful Menorah Contest! Mazel Tov to Israel for winning first place, Kedem for second place, and Olivia for third place. There were so many creative entries, it was so hard to choose which one to vote for.

Miriam's Well
Thank you to Morah Ana, Morah Corinne, Morah Miller and Morah Mickaela and the pre-school classes for organizing a meaningful and successful Kosher food drive for Miriam's Well. A staff member and a volunteer from Jewish Family Services came to pick up all the donations earlier this week.

Thank you to Rabbi Miller for coming to answer questions in the Grade 3 Judaics class. Thank you to Morah Safren for inviting him!

We invite and encourage all families to participate in this very important event for our school. For more information please speak to Mrs. Zuli Mashiah. Refreshments will be served.
Message from Cathy Cole
Dear Friends,

Having just returned from 3 months in Israel, I wanted to share with you the experience of the dedication of the computer room at Uziel School in Kiryat Shmona, to which you generously donated.

As our Calgary P2G delegation arrived at the school, we were greeted by the mayor of Kiryat Shmona, Nissim Malka, and the entire school standing outside waving Canadian and Israeli flags. It was really something to see. They were so excited to meet us, as were we to see them.

They planned a beautiful dedication ceremony for us. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. A small group of children sang for us the most beautiful rendition of Yerushalayim Shel Zahav, three young girls welcomed us, we heard from the mayor of Kiryat Shmona , administration at the school and finally from the computer teacher on the impact of the new computer room. Of course there was lots of food to be had!

I wished you all could have joined us to see firsthand how appreciative everyone was to receive this gift. Marty and I want to thank each and every one of you again for making this dream possible.

Cathy
