Senate President Sweeney Agrees to Hold Vote Against DMHAS Transfer
Senate Health Chairman
Joseph Vitale
has officially recommended that the Senate hold a vote to oppose Governor Christie's DMHAS shift from the DHS to the DOH. Vitale also announced that Senate President
Stephen Sweeney
"has agreed to schedule a voting session as soon as possible to take up legislation to block this move." Exact dates are unknown at this time. We appreciate their support, as well as the support of all of our members and partners who contacted their legislators about this issue.

Telehealth Bill is Signed Into Law by the Governor
On July 21st, 2017 Governor Christie signed a bill into law that explicitly authorizes health care providers (including LCSWs) to engage in telemedicine and telehealth. Importantly, it also directs insurance companies to pay for such services under most conditions. However,
the law does not cover all types of remote treatments/communications. This bill specifically allows "two-way videoconferencing or store-and-
forward technology that is designed to replicate
the traditional in-person encounter
and interaction between health
care practitioner and patient by allowing for interactive, real-time visual and auditory communication, and the electronic transmission of images, diagnostics, and medical records." It does not cover "audio-only telephone conversation, electronic mail, instant messaging, phone text, or facsimile transmission."
The BSWE is currently reviewing this new law and will provide more information about how social work services in New Jersey can be delivered. Keep reading newSWire™ and following us on Facebook for more details.
