Clinical Network's Town Hall Meeting:
Join us on January 24
th
for a Town Hall Meeting on the clinical social work response to the 2016 elections and Trump administration. To be held just after the presidential inauguration this promises to be a lively discussion on how we move forward as a social work community. The Town Hall meeting will be held at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield from 6:30-8:30 PM. The cost is $10 for members/$20 for non-members and students are free. Two CECs will be given. Watch for more information and online registration.
Legislative News & Action
Send Your State Legislators Holiday Greetings:
The coming legislative session will be especially challenging. The deficit is projected at 1.5 billion dollars and there is almost no legislators even willing to talk about new revenue. More than ever we will need to up our game if we are to have a chance to minimize cuts to social services. One way to start is to begin now to build a relationship with your state senator and state representative. We suggest sending a holiday card to your two legislators wishing them a peaceful holidays and letting them know that you want to keep in touch on the budget issues. And remember to tell them you are a social worker! (By the end of the 2017 session they may need your services). Not sure who represents you go to

The Coalition on Human Needs seeks voices from across the nation to add to our
growing list of organizations and individuals who are standing together against dismantling the services and protections people need and for proven investments to extend opportunity and economic security to all. When so much is at stake, why does a petition matter? It says to the Senators needed to block the passage of destructive bills that individuals and groups in their states are among thousands nationwide ready to take a stand and take action. Creating a Movement - How to Sustain and Grow Community Behavioral Health in Connecticut:
As Connecticut explores opportunities to expand access to behavioral health care, we want to learn from similar movements that have expanded access to services in other areas of the human services delivery system. The next BHECON forum will bring together providers, foundation representatives, state agency officials, and other stakeholders to identify the core elements of building a successful movement for change. The discussion will focus on the ways the effort to end chronic homelessness has made significant progress in Connecticut. Friday, January 6th
Cultural Immersion Program Ecuador:
For the 10th consecutive summer (June- July 2017) there will be cultural immersion programs in Quito, Ecuador. Programs (1-month experience, 2-week experience, and 1-week experience) are geared towards graduate students in all areas of psychology as well as practitioners and professionals (e.g., psychologists, social workers, counselors, principals, university professors, and teachers) who wish to gain experience in Spanish, acquire knowledge of Hispanic culture, and an understanding of Ecuador.
