County and Cities across Johnson County Recognize UCS' 50th Anniversary Milestone
Johnson County Board of County Commissioners and city councils throughout the county have taken time this summer to help celebrate UCS' 50th Anniversary with proclamations recognizing the organization's work and impact on our community.  UCS and its board members have been honored to receive proclamations so far from the cities of Leawood, Overland Park, Westwood Hills, Edgerton, Olathe, Merriam, Lenexa, Shawnee, Gardner, Prairie Village, Roeland Park, Spring Hill, and Johnson County, and are looking forward to being recognized at Mission's September 20th City Council meeting.
In presenting the proclamations, our elected leaders have taken the time to discuss the importance of UCS' work around community planning, research and data analysis, education and advocacy. Many noted UCS' work to increase awareness of growing poverty in our county and the importance of a robust human service safety net to ensure the health and well-being of our most vital asset - our residents. Additionally, UCS recognized its long partnership with the County and cities to support vital health and human service programming through Human Service Fund grants and the Alcohol Tax Fund for those communities who participate in this pooled fund.
UCS was incorporated in 1967 in response to a vision of community leaders to ensure all residents of Johnson County had access to human and social services needed to live safe, productive lives, and was instrumental, during its early years, in helping create several nonprofit agencies that have worked to address those needs as a part of the original vision for the future of Johnson County.
HUD's FY 2017 Continuum of Care on Homelessness' Competition Application is Available
Each year, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) releases a competitive funding opportunity to Continuums of Care (CoC) nationally working to end homelessness.  UCS acts as Johnson County's CoC lead agency and submits the application annually on behalf of local members.  In FY 2016, $677,000 was awarded to members of Johnson County's CoC to support 10 programs. The FY 2017 CoC application is due September 28, 2017 to HUD.  To view the notice, click  Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Continuum of Care (CoC) Program Competition .
