The language we use forms the way we think, and the prayers we use forms the way we believe. During the draft budget hearings, those in attendance frequently asked about whether the words "assessment" and "pledge" adequately communicate our mutual ministry. Concurrently, a committee formed to study our process of interacting with our congregations and their giving has come to a similar conclusion. To that end, the Project: Fair Share Committee out of Diocesan Council has proposed that we begin the change of how we refer to our mutual ministry in terms that communicate our hope, love for each other, and a theology of abundance. This committee's unanimous recommendation is that instead of "Assessments and Pledges" we use "Sacred Gifts/Giving." It is a simple, but important change in how we value each other's ministry. Consequently, in my call to convention, I have included this language (with the old language in parenthesis so there is clarity). As we journey together, we will find many important ways to honor the sacrifice that the People of God make on a regular basis to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

El lenguaje que utilizamos crea lo que pensamos, y las oraciones que usamos forman lo que creemos. Durante las reuniones que hemos tenido de la presentación del borrador del presupuesto, las preguntas frecuentes entre los que asistieron fueron sobre las palabras "apreciación y promesas de ofrenda" y los que éstas comunican de forma adecuada nuestro mutuo ministerio. Al mismo tiempo, el formado comité que estudia nuestro proceso de interactuar con nuestras congregaciones en relación con sus ofrendas, termina en una conclusión similar. Para este propósito, el proyecto: Fair Share Committee out of Diocesan Council, ha propuesto que se comience un cambio en cómo nos referimos a nuestro ministerio mutuo en términos que comuniquemos nuestra esperanza, el amor que nos tenemos unos a los otros, y la teología de la abundancia. La recomendación unánime de este comité es que en vez de "costos/valores/apreciación y promesas de ofrenda" utilicemos el término "Los Dones Sagrados/Ofrendas Sagradas." Es un cambio simple, pero importante de cómo valoramos el ministerio que cada uno tenemos. Constantemente, en mi convocatoria para la Convención, he incluido este lenguaje (entre paréntesis con el idioma anterior para que haya claridad). Mientras hacemos juntos nuestra jornada, encontraremos muchas e importantes maneras de honrar el sacrificio que el Pueblo de Dios hace todo el tiempo en sus vidas cotidianas, compartiendo las buenas nuevas de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
