Arlington Pediatric Center: Philanthropy in Action   APC

Arlington Pediatric Center (APC) opened its doors over 15 years ago as a community benefit program of Virginia Hospital Center, providing healthcare for low-income and uninsured children in Arlington. Since 2001, APC has provided more than 165,000 clinical visits to more than 35,000 children.  Healthier lives and brighter futures start with access to the individualized, compassionate, and culturally-sensitive care provided by APC's outstanding medical and nursing staff.

Because medical reimbursements only cover 60 cents of every dollar spent on providing care to these young patients, APC's mission is supported significantly by the generosity of our community.

We want to thank these special organizations for their recent grant support of APC

Vicky Collins Foundation  funds two care coordination nurses for children with special healthcare needs. Vicky Collins Foundation has contributed close to $900,000 to APC since 2005

John Edward Fowler Memorial Foundation has provided $55,000 in general operating support since 2013

Venable Foundation has contributed $73,000 in general operating support since 2009

Northern Virginia Health Foundation recently provided an $80,000 general operating support grant to APC and has given more than $1 million since 2007

Northwest Arlington Lions continued its long time support of APC recently with a $2,500 grant to  purchase hearing screening equipment for our patients

Thank you to Books & Bagels Club at Arlington Science Focus School for Supporting APC!students

Books & Bagels Book Club is a group of over 40 2nd - 4th graders from Arlington Science Focus School that meets before the school day starts to read and discuss some of the best books for young children. Each quarter, these students choose a way to give back to their community, using themes gathered from the books they have read as inspiration. In the spring, Books & Bagels Club members donated folders full of journals, coloring pages, crayons, and kind notes for patients at Arlington Pediatric Center. Over 100 kids who receive medical care at APC benefited from this generous and thoughtful gesture.

Thank you so much to these awesome students, their families, and the staff at Arlington Science Focus School for serving the Arlington community!

Virginia Hospital Center Earns 3 Year Re-Accreditation from Commission on Cancer coc

Virginia Hospital Center recently received full, three-year re-accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). To earn CoC accreditation, the Hospital's Cancer Program must meet 34 quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care.

"At Virginia Hospital Center, we strive to provide the most effective, high-quality, compassionate care to our cancer patients, and we are extremely proud that our program meets such rigorous quality standards," said James B. Cole, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital. "We are humbled that our patients allow us into their lives during such personal and important moments, and our dedicated team of cancer specialists is committed to providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for them."

The CoC accreditation Program provides the framework for Virginia Hospital Center to continue to improve the quality of its cancer care through a focus on prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, life-long follow-up for recurrent disease and end-of-life care. In addition, when patients receive care at Virginia Hospital Center, they have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and patient-centered services including psycho-social support, a patient navigation process, and a survivorship care plan that documents care and seeks to improve quality of life.
