Summer Assignment by Rev. Tina Simson
As UUs, how do we build spiritual connection through our Journey?
Each summer our church community engages in a summer spiritual exercise. We do this to keep our faith close to our heart, as we travel away with our minds or with our feet, committing to return to our home in the fall. OUR SUMMER EXERCISE:  Find a stone and bring it to church in September. President's Column by Tim Farnum
Hi Folks. We had a meeting of the Board of Trustees on Tuesday, August 8. Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.  Rev. Joel gave an Interim Minister's report. Anne Perry presented a Financial Report. John Solberg shared comments received during the Annual Budget Drive, and information from his presentations on Policy Governance to new members of the Board of Trustees. I led a discussion of a Board covenant for the coming year. To read more, click here.
Happening in the Week Ahead
Vipassana Meditation
Vipassana, from the Buddhist tradition, is a simple form of mindfulness and breath awareness.  You need not be familiar with Buddhism or sit on the floor!  Participants take part in a 40-minute sit.  All are welcome to join, every Monday at 7:30pm.
Food Cupboard Suggestion
The Brighton Food Cupboard needs baby wipes and diapers, size 5 and 6, as well as Boost and Ensure supplemental nutrition drinks.  Let's bring these items to church this week. Food donations are always welcome. For further information, email Alison Wilder or call 585-342-2459.

Giving Away the Plate
Two weekends each month, plate collections from our worship services are given outside our walls to small local organizations or to denominational activities. Suggestions for plate recipients are accepted from members and friends of our church.  Do you have an organization in mind? Please submit a suggestion to the committee by Wednesday, September 6, for the next round of selections. UU/Schools Partnership: Help Needed
UU/Schools Partnership needs several new committee members to help with administration, education, volunteer and fund raising issues. You do not have to be a volunteer to serve on the committee. Our meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month, from 4:30-6:00pm. Please contact Andrea Porter or Joe Simson if you are interested.
The Pastoral Care Team Needs Your Help!
Are you a good listener? Do you have a caring heart? Do you have a few hours each month to help another church member through a rough spot? If so, please consider joining our Pastoral Care Team. This group of dedicated individuals support the Pastoral Care ministry of our church by visiting and supporting other members. Through our compassion we serve needs greater than our own.
