December 22, 2016

As we close out the end of the first semester, all students are most likely looking ahead to next semester and our seniors (and their families) are already thinking about graduation activities. This year's commencement exercises will take place on Monday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at the University of Dayton Arena. While we have utilized the Schuster Center for our ceremony since it opened in 2003, we were unable to secure an appropriate date for commencement because of a large Broadway production coming in May.

After looking at several locations, we are enthusiastic about what the University of Dayton Arena has to offer for the Class of 2017 - and how the Arena staff can help us make this large space feel more intimate for our special event. There is also plenty of convenient parking!  While we did consider an outdoor event at Roger Glass Stadium - Home of the Chaminade Julienne Eagles, we decided that we would rather not risk the issues that might arise because of inclement springtime weather.

Each graduate will receive 12 tickets for the commencement ceremony. Additional details about the events leading up to commencement will be mailed home soon.

On behalf of all the teachers and staff members at Chaminade Julienne, we wish you and your family a blessed Christmas. God Bless and Go Eagles!

MINISTRY & SERVICE

From the Chaplain's Office
For four weeks we have been making our Advent journey, patiently waiting and preparing. And now this weekend we see our hope realized: we celebrate the Word Made Flesh, Jesus Christ our Savior, coming to dwell among us. May we be reminded that this is more than a one-day event. It is more than a 12-day celebration. It is really a year-long realization that our God comes to us and remains with us in every moment of our lives. For such a great gift, let us join the angels in their song of praise: "Glory to God in the highest!"  May you come to know God's abiding presence in your life, both now and in the New Year.  Merry Christmas!

Wright Scholar Research Assistant Program
Applications Due Before Monday, Jan. 9
Qualified juniors and seniors are strongly encouraged to apply for this competitive program. The number of CJ students accepted in recent years has grown. It is a tremendous paid summer internship program at WPAFB for juniors and seniors, right in our own backyard! It is a commitment, for an entire summer, but well worth it, to introduce students to many STEMM career fields.
Start early on your application, and request letters of recommendation before Christmas break! Learn more here.

Founders' Thoughts

St. Julie "More than ever I see the need for strong, brave, generous souls who are afraid of nothing on this earth except sin and displeasing God. "

Fr. Chaminade "I am like a brook that makes no effort to overcome obstacles in its way. All the obstacles can do is hold me up for a while, as a brook is held up; but during that time it grows broader and deeper and after a while it overflows the obstruction and flows along again."
