Message from Dr. Young
As EPIC closes out 2016, we can't help but look back on the year with pride. We are currently making the final touches on our Annual Report and the data collected unquestionably shows the continued growth of our industry partnerships, applied research, and enrollment in energy courses. It is clear that the charge EPIC was given at our inception is being fulfilled. Thank you to all who have invested in EPIC, and provided in-kind and monetary resources to ensure our success, but especially to our faculty and students, without whom EPIC would not be able to fulfill the promise we made to industry and UNC Charlotte. Thank you and best wishes for the holiday season and a prosperous 2017!
EPIC Affiliates logo
Welcome EPIC Affiliates members!
Since rolling out the program in the beginning of 2016, many of our existing industry partners showed their commitment to EPIC's mission and vision by becoming EPIC Affiliates. Affiliates benefit from EPIC's core capabilities in developing focused energy solutions in technology, workforce and economic development, and have preferred access to students with an energy concentration.

With this first year is coming to an end, we would like to give special thanks to Duke Energy, EPRI, Siemens, AREVA, EnergyUnited, Burns & McDonnell, Piedmont Natural Gas, and Vertex Railcar, for their continued support. As the program grows in membership we look forward to providing our industry partners, students, and faculty better collaboration opportunities to research, learn, to together solve some of today's greatest energy challenges.

We welcome our newest members:

Carolinas Energy Planning For The Future
In partnership with the North Carolina and South Carolina State Energy Offices, EPIC played a key role in the research and writing of the "Carolinas Energy Planning For The Future" report. The almost 300 page report, which took over two years to compile, will be used as a reference guide for government and research agencies. Once it is ready to be shared with the public, EPIC will provide details of where it may be found.

Student tour
Filling the Workforce Pipeline
  • East Mecklenburg is one of five high schools in North Carolina that qualified for and launched an Academy of Engineering program. Over 50 of their students visited EPIC and were excited to see our state-of-the-art labs and to learn more about the many opportunities available to them in the field of engineering. During their visit they also were able to attend the Fall Senior Design Expo.
  • The North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) partnered with EPIC, Areva, Westinghouse for Nuclear Energy Facts where the facts, stats, perception, and career options surrounding the nuclear industry were discussed. A panel of industry professionals also hosted a Q&A session.
  • EPIC was pleased to partner with EPIC Affiliate members AREVA, Duke Energy, and EPRI to provide an energy workshop to area high school and middle school students interested in energy. UNC Charlotte's NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) student chapter assisted with the program, along with UNC Charlotte faculty and staff.
