PK2 choir at "Le marché de Noël"
La Chorale des PK2

A memorable moment shared with our SDFAS community. Many thanks to Claire and her PK2 choir for singing for us a few French songs.

The Marché de Noel was a great success this year

On behalf of all SDFAS children and their families, the Parent Association would like to thank all SDFAS vendors for participating in the 2016 edition of this very memorable Marché de Noël.

We end the year knowing that our school is not only a place of exceptional learning but it is also a community leader, helping support local business initiatives and fostering entrepreneurship in our own youth. We also demonstrated that we know how to simply enjoy ourselves together!

The Parent Association wishes you the happiest of holidays and a prosperous 2017!

We look forward to celebrating more joyful moments together soon.

Happy holidays,
The PA
La Jolla Christmas parade

Thank you to all the students who participated to La Jolla Christmas Parade. Two French cars followed the 21 students who proudly waved at the spectators alongside the streets of La Jolla Village.
A very family event not to be missed!

ÉDITO

The year 2016 has flown by, we enjoyed many memorable and happy events on campus and witnessed tough times on the outside world. At our modest level, we have been trying to make this world a better place to live in, starting at home with our students, striving every day to make their time spent at school a great learning experience.  Would it be with their friends, their teachers as well as all the SDFAS employees who come every day to school with love and passion for their job!

A special thanks to the "Groupe Humanitaire" who has coordinated our efforts to support the community.  Recently, we collected large amounts of food for the less privileged children in San Diego and raised money to help schools in Haiti.

Last week, the Marché de Noël has brought lots of joy to the whole community and it has been a pleasure to welcome back some of our former students and parents who miss the school. Bravo et Merci to Lydia Inostroza, our P.A. president and to her entire team for their time and energy spent organizing this yearly event.

I will be leaving you until 2017 to one of the best time of the year.  For the next two weeks, the Holiday Break will gives parents and children some well-deserved time off, time to bond and savor family time, rejoice in this warm and peaceful festive season while making plan for the New Year...

Happy Holiday to all our students and their families!

Christian Jarlov, Head of School

Chers parents,

Do you love experimenting or testing your ideas about scientific phenomena? Turn that into a science fair project and share what you learn with our community.  Find a topic that interests you and that you are curious about. Develop a testable question. Create an experiment and repeat it multiple times. Collect your results. Present all your findings on a display board. Bring the project to the auditorium on Monday, January 23, 2017. If you have questions or would like to see an example of a completed project, contact  Echo Jacoway  or  Anne-Laure Denis .

8th graders' play
La pièce de théâtre des élèves de 4ème

On December 1, our 8 graders performed a play which they had written themselves. They presented an interpretation of "The Crucible", and their performance was simply brilliant!
Thank you to all students and their teacher: M. G. for this performance! The dramatization and the performance was very much enjoyed by all the Middle School and their parents.
A nice way to progress in early reading and writing

Pictured: Elise.

We recently received some material from France that will allow the students in PK2 to progress faster with their pre-reading and pre-writing skills.
The manipulation of the individual letters allows the children to memorize first and foremost the letters; then understand their different styles such as: capitals, printed and cursive, know how to associate them and give them the habit to read and write from left to right. Finally students will be able to place the letters on a line which will help them with their learning of the alphabetical order. The new material offers different games and activities which promote the manipulation of the individual letters almost effortlessly.
Story book in Kindergarten

"Les sacs à histoires"(bag with a story), is a French story recorded in an audio file format by the teacher.  Each bag contains a book, a QR code, the list of the material and the activities about the book. Those French stories are coming home and parents will be able to play with their children by making a puzzle about the story. One way to do this is by putting bookmarks at the right page or redoing the story with the characters.  Let's encourage and build this craving for reading by using the bags with stories!

Older students share their reading skills with PK1 students. It is such a proud moment to be able to read to younger students! The third graders are highly motivated and the young ones love it!

Congratulations to the 3rd graders for your efforts.
Outreach Program: Visit of Mission Bay High School students at SDFAS

On December 9, as part of its Outreach Program, the SDFAS Middle School welcomed on campus a cohort of 15 high school students from MBHS. The students were French learners experiencing French at different level of language abilities. 8 of our 8th grade students served as Ambassadors around campus.

The MBHS students enjoyed an immersion experience in a French Math class with M. Giot, where they were offered the opportunity to solve a problem of logic collaboratively with our SDFAS students. They also visited a Spanish class conducted by Ms. Patino, and marveled at the K class, listening to 5th graders reading stories to their younger peers. Finally, they had a chance to explore the Marché de Noël.

Said their French teacher.

Thank you to all student ambassadors and teachers who helped to make this visit a success!
