Stay On Top Of Winter Weather Closings

As winter approaches, school closings due to severe weather is possible. Media outlets such as WCCO, KSTP, Fox 9, Kare 11 and WCCO radio announce school closings.

Because Metro North ABE has locations in  several school districts, it is important to listen for details that pertain to the district in which your school is located.

Your safety is very important. When the weather is bad, please use your best judgement. If you feel uncomfortable driving, but your school is in session - stay home. Please be sure to call your school to let someone know that you will not be volunteering that day.

A Deliciously Educational Day Out For Blaine ESL Students

On Wednesday, November 23 Metro North ABE Program Supervisor, Molly Stewart and Blaine Learning Lab instructor, Polina Huffman took a class of ESL students on a field trip to downtown Minneapolis.

They rode to and from Minneapolis on a Metro Transit bus. For some of the students, this was their first time riding a bus. Metro Transit employees were on hand to provide the students with helpful instruction on how to use the bus to get around.

When they arrived downtown, the group went to visit former Metro North student turned new business owner, Oksana Goldenstein. Ms. Goldenstein is the owner of
Crepes Up Delicious located in the Canadian Pacific Building. The students were happy to witness the success of their former classmate. They saw first hand that there are many paths to success. According to Polina Huffman, "You don't always have to go the traditional route. There is a light and this is not a tunnel."

The students' trip was featured on a  KARE 11 news segment, in the Anoka County Shopper and the StarTribune.
