Although not all providers are currently affected, we hope that you will all see the value in supporting those who are facing an unfunded mandate that could legitimately cause many providers to close programs and cause serious disruption in consumers' lives.
California is home to several of the highest cost of living regions in the nation, with over 20 municipalities or counties that have set the local minimum wage above the State's minimum wage or ahead of the State's schedule to achieve $15 per hour.
Without recognition of the increased costs to comply with local minimum wage increases, many providers will be unable to continue delivering these critical services.
Here are the relevant details for the rally:
Date: August 30, 2017
Time: 10am to 11am
Location: South side of the State Capitol
We are hoping to have a big turnout to demonstrate community solidarity in addressing the issue, and it would be great if we had representatives from each area affected by a local minimum wage ordinance. For those of you who can't be there (and even for those who can), you can send a letter of support to the Senate Appropriations Committee, where the bill is scheduled to be heard next.
Here is a
sample letter of support that you can amend to include information about how AB 279 is critical for your organization. Letters may be emailed to the Committee consultant for the bill, Brendan McCarthy, at
[email protected].
Additionally, organizers are hoping to present letters from providers, consumers, and family members to Senator Lara, the Chair of the Appropriations Committee, on the day of the rally. Sample letters for the various stakeholders can be found
here.
Thanks for all you do!
