December 2016
Dear NBTS Alumni/ae,
I share with you our warmest greetings in this holy season of waiting and watching. In a world that grows darker each day as we move toward the shortest day of the year on December 21st, our Advent wreaths remind us another reality- that with each passing week, the light grows stronger and the advent of Christ comes ever closer to each and all of us.

Allow me to share our apologies for this tardy newsletter. We have spent the fall adjusting to the departure of Cathy Proctor, who for seven years served as our Director of Development. As you can see we have lost a number of our alumni brothers and sisters since we have communicated last.

It is our hope that with some adjustments to our networking ability, we will soon be able to share in a timely way the death of alumni, and then on a regular basis, the good and encouraging news of alumni who continue to serve faithfully and thrive in their ministries.

May the God of our ancestors and of our offspring, hold you in love in this holy season and remind you often of profound gratitude for your affection and support.

DECEMBER 2016

Allan Janssen (M.Div. 1973) , affiliate professor at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and a General Synod Professor of the Reformed Church in America, has a new book.  With the understanding that confession is a witness to the gospel, Confessing the Faith Today investigates how a sixteenth-century Reformation confession, the Belgic Confession, can assist contemporary Christians testify to the truth of Gods gracious turn toward creation and do so in the context of the twenty-first century's competing claims. A close examination of the internal coherence of the Belgic Confession, along with an exploration of how that confession might engage contemporary life, offers fresh insight into how Christians might articulate what is at stake in the gospel. Janssen encourages the church to enter a conversation with the forebears of the faith, acknowledging the historical nature of not only the confession but of God's involvement in all creation.
