Mini Marathon Recap
Emily Maxwell , GSRC Member

After months of training, time away from family, running, running, and more running the day was finally upon us! For some of us it was our first half marathon, for others this may have been half marathon number two, three or even a dozen plus! Regardless if this event was your first or twentieth half all of us could not have asked for a better day. As always the Grand Strand Running Club family members met each other with hugs, laughter and excitement in the parking lot of the Coastal Grand Mall (one of the events main sponsors). As our feet hit the pavement on Robert Grisham parkway the sun began to peak over the horizon coupled with a slight breeze in the air; it was a perfect day for running!

As the race continued on turning onto Ocean Blvd the slight breeze picked up a bit, but the view more than made up for it. Soon you could see the Sky Wheel come into sight, a sight that helped the runners realized the end was closer. As we passed the Sky Wheel you could hear the cheers from the finish line pulling you towards it. Just as mile 12 was upon us the smiling facing of the Grand Strand Running Club’s water stop came into focus. For many of us the faces of our GRSC family was exactly what we needed to give us the last push to the end.

After the finish many of us enjoyed wonderful pictures with our metals and an amazing view of the ocean. We strolled down to boardwalk to enjoy a well-deserved refreshing beverage!

Thank you to the many volunteers that helped during mini marathon weekend!

Safety Awareness
Officer William McLeod of the North Myrtle Beach Police Department gave a Safety Awareness presentation to the Tuesday night North Myrtle Beach runners on October 25th at Z's Amazing Kitchen restaurant. He focused his talk on keeping runners safe during their runs, including wearing reflective gear, listening to music on one ear and being vigilant. He said, if possible, to run with a partner, change your routes often and report any suspicious activity you may come across. Additional details from Officer McLeod's presentation are available on the GSRC's Facebook page.
