This Weekend's Services

This Saturday, 5:00pm Service:

The Sunday School Christmas Program will be performed at the Saturday evening service on December 17, 2016 (as well as the Sunday 10:45am service, more information below). We would like the children to get to the church at 4:00pm to get costumes on and run through the program. The service is at 5:00pm and will be done by 6:00pm.

This Sunday, 8:45am Service:

Please join the Chancel Choir, Edgebrook Lutheran Church Bell Choir and guest soloist Ben Crabtree in a service of glorious, traditional Christmas Carols.  As we light the 4th candle on the Advent Wreath and anticipate the coming of the Christ Child, let us join together with the Christmas music that is so dear to us all.

This Sunday, 10:45am Service:

For the Sunday School Christmas Program, the kids should arrive to church at 9:45am. Again, we will put on costumes and run through the program before the service. The service is at 10:45am and will be held upstairs in the sanctuary.

Thank you for your support and for bringing your kids to participate.

Feeding the Homeless
Friday, December 23rd at 11:00am

Hey everyone! I was hoping that you would help me with a project that I'm doing. Ten years ago when I was 16, I raised money for Christmas to feed homeless people a hot meal, and I'm doing it again this year. After working downtown on Michigan Avenue for 8 months and actually talking to and getting to know these people, they aren't bad people, truthfully they are all hungry. So this year instead of getting presents for Christmas I'm trying to pass out lunches to the homeless instead. Everyone deserves to eat and not be hungry, and I would love to help them.

So...I'm making brown bag lunches, as many as I can and then I'm going to go downtown and pass them out around Michigan Ave. If you want to help pass them out with me, help me make the lunches, or help me buy some of the lunch stuff (bread, lunch meat, chips, etc.) that would be really great!

Here is the link to the gofundme page if you want to donate: https://www.gofundme.com/help-feed-homeless-for-xmas

If you are going with me on the 23rd, we will meet at the church at 11:00am and will travel together.

If you are interested or can help in any way, please email me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Jessie Hegberg

Toys for Tots
Donations extended to Sunday, December 18th

Toys are being collected again this year for Toys for Tots, in memory of Andrew Sikorski.  Every child deserves a new toy for Christmas! This is the goal of the Marine Corps annual Toys for Tots toy drive. This is the 17th year that we have collected toys in memory of Andrew Sikorski. Andrew was a young member of our church who died 18 years ago. He was also a member of scout troop 957 and his Eagle Scout project was working with the Toys for Tots toy drive.
Each year the requests from organizations increase making it more difficult for the Marine Corps to reach their goal! Please donate a NEW, unwrapped toy... especially for older boys and girls. NO stuffed animals, toy guns, knives, etc. Sports equipment, board games, and books make great gifts! As we count our many blessings please be generous and donate with a loving heart. Please leave your toy in the box in the coffee room and Gathering Space.

Feeding My Starving Children

Last Friday, December 9th, 45 members of ELC went to Feed My Starving Children in Schaumburg and were part of a larger group that helped pack 158,976 meals for children in Haiti. That food will feed 435 kids for an entire year!

Lutheran Disaster Response
Hurricane Matthew

(From the ELCA Website)

The situation:
Hurricane Matthew, one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes in years, hit Haiti, Cuba and Jamaica with heavy rain and dangerous winds. Landslides occurred in the Dominican Republic due to heavy rain as well. The Bahamas are in the hurricane's path, and it could make landfall on the east coast of the United States. The National Hurricane Center has reported Hurricane Matthew to be "extremely dangerous" with conditions favorable for it to maintain its strength.

Our response:
Your support through Lutheran Disaster Response will bring God's hope and healing to those affected by this hurricane. Where the hurricane has already hit the hardest in Haiti, Lutheran Disaster Response's trusted partner is already there with relief material. Our response is spanning across several countries, especially Haiti and Cuba. In the U.S., Lutheran Disaster Response coordinators are collaborating with local community leaders, civic organizations, ecumenical partners and officials to begin planning the proper responses. Together, we will work with congregations, synods, trusted partners and companion churches in the area that know the communities well and will walk with people on the road to recovery.

What you can do:

Pray
Please pray for the people who have been affected and are in the path of Hurricane Matthew. May God's healing presence give them peace and hope in their time of need.

Give
Gifts to  "Hurricane Matthew"  will be used to assist those affected by the hurricane until the response is complete.

New Hope Donations
The food pantry is in special need of men's toiletries, namely aerosol shaving cream, disposable razors, deodorant and shampoo.

If you are able, please place donations in the collection cabinet in Fellowship Hall in the bin marked New Hope Food Pantry.  Your contribution will be greatly appreciated.

Also, it's getting cold outside and warm winter coats are also needed by the New Hope clients.  Should you have a coat that is in good condition and is no longer needed in your home, please consider donating.

Please hang your donated coat/s on the rack in Fellowship Hall marked "Coat Collection" and the coats will be delivered to the New Hope Pantry.
