Official School News and Updates
A HUGE THANK YOU to all our many parent and student volunteers who have done so much to help with our back-to-school events--more than we can list here!

The Parent Organization, with the leadership of president Carrilee Fox and vice-president Allison Disarufino went above and beyond in organizing VPREP this year - and adapting to circumstances with the sudden storm! Many thanks also to PSO chairs Yvonne Sandweiss and Kim Seeley for arranging the New Parent Coffee and New Student Luncheon events.

Student volunteers, both mentors and house leaders, were instrumental at VPREP as well as New Student Orientation, helping families and making our first-year students feel at home.

Our teachers helped out at VPREP as well, and made time to be in the halls on the first day of school, helping with schedules, lockers, and more.

The Veritas Prep community really came together this week, a sign this will be a great year!

Traffic Safety - a Call for Volunteers

Parent and student drivers, please model the virtues of patience and charity when entering and exiting the Veritas parking lot. There is no more immediate way to show we are a true community, and the stakes are high.

Year after year, our faculty have done their best to protect our students walking to and from campus, as vehicles enter and exit our campus. However, we need your support. Parents, please consider volunteering to help out as a traffic monitor before or after school. If you can commit to 20-25 minutes in the morning or afternoon, this will be a generous contribution to the safety and integrity of our community.

If you are interested in signing up, please complete the survey linked here. Our administration will contact you to set up a time when you can discuss the role and complete any necessary paperwork.

European Field Study 2018: Classical Rome and Its Re-Birth.
In coordination with Explorica, an educational travel company, Mr. Nydegger is planning a field study in a part of the world that perfectly overlaps with our classical curriculum: Italy! From May 23 to June 6, students and teachers will travel to Rome, Florence, Venice, and several cities in between, experiencing the best of Classical, Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque Italy. We'll study and visit such important Roman buildings as the Coliseum, Pantheon, and St. Peter's Basilica. In Florence, we'll see all the major sights like Michelangelo's David, Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise, and the Uffizi Gallery, and we'll climb to the top of Brunelleschi's iconic dome. We'll tour the canals of Venice, visiting St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace. We'll also see Assisi's basilica, Sienna's square, Lucca's walls, and Pisa's leaning tower! With nearly a week in Florence, students will have the chance to interact with that remarkable city's history and culture at a far deeper level than the average highlights tour.

The tour is open to current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders, and the tour fee is $5,231, which includes all flights, transportation, entry fees, tours, breakfast, and most dinners. An early bird discount of $150 is available for those who can sign up in the next month. Any and all interested students should indicate their interest by submitting a Preliminary Application. An interest meeting for students will be held after school on Monday, August 14 in Room 209. An interest meeting for students and parents will be held on Monday, August 21 at 7:00 in the library. Please contact Mr. Nydegger for more information.
