August 2017: Focus on Hydraulics

M.W. Watermark Air-Operated Hydraulic System

The M.W. Watermark filter press Air-Operated Hydraulic System has been designed for durability, longevity and quick closing, clamping and opening times.

Our filter presses initially close by simply using 100 psi clean shop air. Once the plates are pushed together using shop air, the hydraulic pump is then switched on to complete the clamping process by compressing the plates.

Since the hydraulic pump is only needed for the actual clamping, much wear and tear on the hydraulic pump is avoided, giving the hydraulic system a much longer life.

After the dewatering process is complete, shop air is then again used to open the press, once again avoiding excessive use of the hydraulic pump.

Because the press can be closed and opened faster, the M.W. Watermark Air-Operated Hydraulic System leads to greater production efficiencies.

Additional benefits...

Hydraulic Cylinder Clamp Pressures: In order to provide the maximum service life and safety factor, M.W. Watermark air-hydraulic systems utilize hydraulic clamp pressures that are below 4,000 psi.

Air-Operated Hydraulic Pump dB Ratings: Sound pressure levels are a common concern for operators. M.W. Watermark uses a hydraulic pump that, when in operation, has been measured under 85 dB with the hydraulic cabinet door closed. This may reduce or eliminate the need for operator hearing protection.

Parts and retrofits are also available for existing units.

Choosing the Right Hydraulic System and Controls for Your Filter Press

The type of hydraulic system best suited for a dewatering application typically depends on the size of the filter press required. Three common types of filter press hydraulic systems include air-operated (introduced above), electric and manual.

Filter press controls are a factor in choosing the type of hydraulic system to be utilized. Options such as automated valves, drip trays, an automatic plate shifter, and / or an automatic high pressure cloth washing unit require an electro-hydraulic closing system.

M.W. Watermark Retrofit Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU)

Another way that we work to get you back up and running quickly is through innovations in equipment. If you are in need of a quick hydraulic system fix or if your filter press hydraulic components have become difficult to source or obsolete, then M.W. Watermark has a great solution for you.

M.W. Watermark has designed a stand-alone Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) which serves as a universal retrofit for older-style filter presses. The HPU is available with either a 7 or an 11 gallon reservoir. These two size options should cover most types of filter presses, from 630mm to 1200mm frame size.
