SPONSOR A CHILD THIS SCHOOL YEAR

Since its creation in the fall of 2013, the Nutrition On Weekends program has grown to help more than 450 local children whom are facing food insecurities in their home. The program provides supplemental food packs for children to take home on the weekend throughout the school year. Last year, the NOW program served children in the Marshfield, Auburndale, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, and Spencer School Districts. The program also served children at the Marshfield location of the Wood County Head Start program. This year, children from Pittsville and Stratford schools will also be served.

The communities' support of this program has been wonderful and has made it possible for the program to grow into what it is today. To continue the success of the program, United Way has created a sponsorship form as another way to support the program. There are 34 weeks during the school year that a child receives a food pack to take home for the weekend. The average cost for a food pack is $2.29. Each food pack contains:  2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, 2 cups of cereal, 2 pieces of fresh fruit, baby carrots, and 2 snack items. The average cost to sponsor a child for the entire school year costs $78.

Please use this link to fill out an electronic sponsorship form. If would like a paper copy mailed to you, please click here.

MAKING AN IMPACT...

Jane came to (North Central Community Action program (NCCAP) seeking emergency rent assistance because she, age 62, was being kicked out of her home by her daughter. Jane had been living with her daughter for the past year and a half. Jane presented verification that she was being abused both emotionally and physically. The police were called by the daughter to remove Jane and because the daughter owned the home Jane was told that she should seek other housing. The daughter was told that she needed to give her mother time to secure different housing. Jane applied for low-income housing and was approved. NCCAP helped with first month rent and Jane was able to move. NCCAP also gave referrals to the Personal Development Center for counseling and to St. Vincent De Paul for household furniture, kitchen and bath items. NCCAP also provided a Soup or Socks food voucher.

The mission of NCCAP is to act as an advocate, provider, and facilitator of programs and services for low-income individuals in Lincoln, Marathon, and Wood Counties (WI).  NCCAP seeks to create opportunities for people and communities to obtain skills, identify and utilize resources, and explore innovative options necessary to reduce poverty and increase self-sufficiency. Your gift to United Way helped provide income supports that help move individuals toward self-sufficiency through programs like North Central Community Action to more than 2000 individuals in 2016. Your generosity is making an impact in our community.
