Chamber's Business After Hours at
5th & Carroll Events last week included yummies from
Blue Mesa Grill - Fort Worth. Convenient for sure, with 5th & Carroll above the restaurant. Same owners, separate entities. 5th & Carroll is a perfect venue for weddings, corporate and non-profit lunches, large birthday parties and holiday get togethers.

Cheers! Yes! Bravo! Bring your appetites because when GM Mathew Sampugnaro of Bravo! Cucina Italiana offers a Chef's Dinner for two, he has said a mouthful. Mr. B once had a paying client; that client once took him to lunch. It was at Bravo! And it was magnifico! Let Mr. B offer a possible menu for your twosome to share -- Crispy Shrimp (Mike) Napoli for an appetizer; a chopped salad with a 5-ounce salmon added; eggplant parmesan and lobster ravioli alla vodka with added shrimp. For dessert, the cannoli crumble and the vanilla bean crème brulee are musts with Caffe Disronna. Is anyone hungry, yet?
Treat retreat: You won't be sitting around a campfire for this one. Instead, you will be on, about and above the challenge course at the 223-acre Camp Fire First Texas Camp El Tesoro in Granbury. There, your group of up-to-20 will get hands-on, team-building exercises and adventures from certified trainers for three hours. Are your goals building trust, improving communications, solving problems or just having fun? Tell Camp Fire what you'd like to accomplish and it will choose activities from among 15 course elements. Bonfire marketer Christy Jones says this needs to be reserved before December 17, 2017.
 Now you can live forever: Cameron and Yadi Goodpaster say their location in the Montgomery Street Antique Mall is where "old school meets the future." They own 3D Me Studio, which has a human-scale 3D scanning booth to instantly replicate yourownselves as 3D models. 3D Me can print as jewelry, holograms or full-color, 3D figurines, even bobbleheads. The buyers usually are mothers and grandmothers, hence the great location, location, location. The figurines are great for your office desk, especially if you have to have a meeting and you don't want to be there. Talk to the figurine. Also great for kids you love but don't want to see. Even for sharing a pet after a divorce. Use your $100 credit any way you figur-ine.

Playing 'Chicken'? Co-owner Meggie Schissler says she uses 200 pounds of chicken daily to prepare all the chicken salads offered at Chicken Salad Chick. Daily leftovers go to area businesses. She says she is willing to put her chicken salad to a taste test against Carlo Capua of Z's Café, the self-proclaimed "best chicken salad in Fort Worth."
 Faster than a 10-speed delivery? At the last Chamber Job Links, Russell Julian, retired from the Army and CEO of a flight training company, told attendees that jobs in the drone industry will grow similar to that of the PC industry during the '90s. Since last August, jobs have tripled. Salaries are in the $75k-$150k range. California, Texas and Florida are the top three states for licensed drone pilots.
Marching to the beat: McKenna Black, a TCU sophomore-to-be interning this summer at TechFW, plays the tuba in the school's marching band. "You must be a weightlifter, too," it was suggested jokingly. "I am(!) a weightlifter!" McKenna said. Her parents met while in the TCU marching band; dad played the tuba and mom the clarinet.
Going green: For its 31st renewal, the Chamber puttered about and threw in a few undulations with this year's GM Financial Annual Chamber Golf Classic Sept. 18. Earlier start, earlier finish and more golf. The day at Ridglea Country Club's North Course begins with an 8:30 breakfast and concludes from 3:30-5 p.m. with the 19th Hole Awards Reception & Silent Auction. In between, there is golf, food, more golf, drink and even more golf, including practice time, a women's clinic and 18 holes of competitive play. You can register a team or yourownself here. |

You tube? Pat Aspan of Spectrum Custom Painting says her tubing career is OVER. "Tough to even get in the tube," she said. "Had a great time, but I'm too old for it."
Writers write: Robert Francis, editor of the Fort Worth Business Press, wrote one of the segments for SceneShop's Someone You Know this Friday and Saturday at Arts Fifth Avenue. His is called Backwards Jambalaya, a story about a musician who finds that giving up music is more difficult than he imagined. Robert also is doing the music for Backwards Jambalaya.
So, about that flex time...: Kenneth Reeves, veep of HR and Organizational Development at world-class culturists Freese and Nichols, is a firm believer that a "job candidate should be interviewing you as hard as you're interviewing them."
Flashlight during blackouts? Mr. B is freelancing for the Star-Telegram's Fab or Flub products column. He is testing LED fake eyelashes.
 OK, who got this right? According to a survey by very pro-water FluksAqua, Texans flunkAqua. We are surprisingly unconcerned when asked how vital water is to our lives. Ninety-two percent of respondents said tax dollars should be spent on sectors other than water.
Kudos: Texas Christian University's Ranch Management Program (founded in 1956) is one of three honorees for the 2017 International Award of Excellence in Conservation given by the Botanical Research Institute of Texas. The event is September 27 at the Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel.
