No Service on Christmas Day

Sunday Service December 18, 2016
Post-Truth ?
Truth is revealed to us over and over again.
Our 4th Principle captures this
" A free and responsible search for truth and meaning "
But what is truth in an era of Fake News, Spin and Post-truth?
What does a religious community do when reality is under siege?

Rev Russ Worship Leader
Lorraine Sandoval-Vigil  Worship Associate

Christmas Eve Service  Saturday December 24th
No Service on Christmas Day

Welcome Visitors and Guests.
We have many options for you to participate in our Fellowship this month and hope you join in any and all services and activities. Therefore, in December we will not host a special Visitor Drop-in session; we will start up again on January 22 from 11:30-12 and look forward to that time with you. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to talk to any member or our Minister Russ with your questions and needs.

Join the Women's March on Washington
(or Bay Area or Santa Cruz) on January 21

The Women's March on Washington  is a national movement for everyone who stands for human rights, civil liberties, diversity, and compassion for our shared humanity. All who are interested in representing the UU Fellowship in the Women's March on January 21st, 2017 are invited to get together after the service this coming Sunday, December 18 during the hospitality hour to make plans to join the March either locally in Santa Cruz or in one of the Bay Area locations in San Francisco, Oakland or San Jose.  Join Joy Hinz who is coordinating this effort at a table (or two) during lunch.

Second Harvest Food Bank Holidays Food Donations

The Holidays shine a spotlight on the hunger issues in our area. There is a need to address the food supply and nutrition for those who have little and go hungry. Once again, our Fellowship will sponsor a Second Harvest donation barrel  thru Sunday, December 18. Donations of canned soup, stews, pastas, peanut butter, beans, and other nutritious non-perishables are appreciated (no glass please!). Last year we donated 99 pounds of food; let's see if we can double that! The barrel will be in the Sanctuary or on the patio depending on the weather.

Tax deductible donations are also valued. To donate on the secure Food Bank website, more information here. Donations coming through this link will be credited to our UUFSCC food drive!

If you would like to write a check, please send to Second Harvest Food Bank at: 800 Ohlone Parkway, Watsonville, CA 95076. Please put Unitarian Fellowship on the Subject line and write Food Drive on the envelope. For any questions, contact Ginny Aragon.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT-

Dear friends,

Thanks for the great turnout for the meeting to brainstorm ideas for a Women's Ministry at the UUF.  Attached are my notes from our discussion, with a summary of the ideas put forward.

Please note these next steps:

·         Meeting for women interested in participating in the women's march after the service on Sunday, December 18 during hospitality.  Joy Hinz will be the point person.  See announcement in Current Happenings.
·         Reconvene the group (and other interested women who were not able to participate in this first meeting) after reflecting on these ideas, and explore further to determine planned activities.  Schedule next meeting on Sunday, January 22 at 12 noon after the service. (Note change of date to avoid conflict with Adult RE session on the third Sunday of the month.)

Sincerely,
Ann

Adult RE
December 18, 12:00 - 1:00 pm

The Holidays can be very complex and stressful for many of us. And this year, there is an overlay of the rancorous political and social climate adding to the difficulty and emotional vulnerability.  Hospice of Santa Cruz County will facilitate a dialogue at our Fellowship to help those interested cope with all the challenges and loss this time of year. Resources will be shared to continue the strategies beyond this session. This will take place Sunday, December 18, 12-1pm in the Sanctuary or Gallery (depending on weather).

Holiday Baskets
December 18

Members of THE CARING CONNECTION have identified 6-7 members who are home-bound due to health challenges. We will be putting together holiday baskets for them on Sunday, December 18. If you are baking cookies, making cards or decorations between now and then, please consider making a few extra to include in the baskets.

- See Bonnie McDonald if you have questions or know of someone who we might have overlooked.
