Fitness:  Frank Young is the New Fitness Pillar Lead!

Frank Young has been a staple in the gym for over 2 years.  Among his mentors is FTR's previous lead trainer, James Sjostrom.  Frank brings 11 years of management experience and a deep reverence for what the practice of fitness has to offer those who are willing to "suit up and show up."  As the father of 5 children, he knows how to balance strength with compassion.
He is eager to support our team of trainers in building a culture with connection at its' core.  When he writes workouts on the board, you will also see words like " commitment" " willingness" and " honesty."  Frank seeks to bring deeper lessons to our activities in the gym, and to show how lifting kettle bells can actually teach us to live by true principles.  These principles can translate into everything we do.
In the first trainer meeting we discussed ideas such as:  more communication between trainers to offer consistent programming, a blog written by trainers about inspirational moments in the gym, continued education and advancement of trainers so we can offer new challenges to our members, and above all how we can connect with classes in a meaningful way.  Frank understands that FTR is built on a foundation of service, and this is our deepest strength.
Creative Arts: Paint Nite and Kid's Turn

Kid's Turn Art Yoga Nutrition    Kids want our time and attention more than anything.  At FTR we offer opportunities to build meaningful relationships.  Parents just may learn something too! This   Saturday August 12th from 2-4 pm $20 suggested donation.
This month we are focusing on being Grounded in Strength. We will paint rocks to claim the ground and decorate the garden.  In yoga the warrior pose teaches the body to be powerful. We will snack on foods to make us strong, and find out how they work in our bodies.

Paint Nite Paint Nite is an introduction to acrylic paint on canvas.  This event is for those who have always wanted to paint, but have been afraid to try.  It is for the artist which within who has been sleeping. In the FTR studio we maintain a supportive space to try new things.  Just as we say in the gym, "All you need to do is show up with an open mind!"  Monday August 28th from 6:30-8:30 pm

Service:  Recovery Day and Clothing Drive

The Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness (USARA) will host the National Rally for Recovery to be held on September 9, 2017.  We expect thousands to walk with us through downtown Salt Lake City in support of recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction. Live bands, dignitaries from the national recovery movement, public officials, persons in recovery, families, community supporters, and friends of recovery will join the celebration.

FTR is also taking donations for two projects this month.
1.  Ascend Recovery - We are need of kids clothes for Pre-k through 6th grade, hygiene kits and underwear. These items will be donated to the school TSE' BII' NIDZISGAI its on the Navajo reservation in Monument Valley. 95% of these kids are considered to be homeless living with other families or in inadequate facilities. Since they are located in Utah and the majority of the reservation is in Arizona they have a hard time getting funds from both the state and Navajo nation. Stay tuned for an FTR outreach with Ascend Recovery to the School to help build a Hogan.

2. The Road Home - Men and Women's clothing (Only donate clothing you would still wear yourself) socks, bra's, underwear, shoes, hygiene products of all kinds (alcohol free), non-perishable food and water.

All donations need to be received by Saturday August 12th

MISSION: FTR's mission is to help individuals maintain long-term recovery from drugs and alcohol through exercise, food and nutrition, creative arts, and community service in a safe, supportive, aspirational and positive environment.
