University of Mary Washington's Great Lives presents author Marc Tyler Nobleman
Author profiles Superman and Batman creators

FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA,  August 9, 2017-   The University of Mary Washington's  Great Lives program is bringing author Marc Tyler Nobleman  to the England Run Branch of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library (CRRL) on Saturday, September 9, 3:00-4:00 p.m.  Nobleman is the author of more than 70 books, including  Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman   and Bill the Boy Wonder: The Secret Co-Creator of Batman . Nobleman will talk about superheroes, his books, and how the creators of Superman and Batman continue to inspire him.  A question and answer session and book signing will follow.

In Boys of Steel, Nobleman celebrates the amazing story of Superman creators  Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two Depression-era teens from Cleveland Superman debuted in 1938 when Siegel and Shuster were only 24 years old.  Boys of Steel  received multiple star reviews and was named an  American Library Association Notable Book

Bill the Boy Wonder illuminates Bill Finger's role in the creation of Batman. Finger, a Jewish writer from the Bronx, came up with the original vision of Batman in 1939.  However, during the first twenty-five years of Batman comics, Finger's name only appeared once while  all credit was attributed to Bob Kane.

Due to Nobleman's research, DC Comics has attached Finger's name to recent productions involving Batman, such as Fox's TV show  Gotham and  Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). Additionally,  The Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing is given out each year at San Diego Comic-Con to two writers, one living and one deceased, who have not been properly recognized for their work.  This year, Hulu released  Batman & Bill, a  documentary based on Nobleman's findings chronicling Finger's career.
