Exciting News from HUF -- Preschool Graduates, Annual Report and More!

On June 3, 2017, six incredible Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF) preschoolers graduated from our Unity 4Kids' early learning program; they are ready for kindergarden. HUF continues to provide quality early education that sets our early learners on the path towards life-long success. Our kids graduate knowing the alphabet, how to count and how to read and write. And their parents learn how to read daily to their children (85% of them do so) and how to be their child's #1 teacher. Our preschool is one of 20 National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA) certified preschools in Broward-- one of only 5 serving south Broward!

We are delighted to announce HUF's 2016 Annual Report is hot off the press-- and now in electronic format! We're proud to say the past year has brought both progress and accomplishments for our clients and programs. Some of the achievements you can read about are:

1,000+ individuals learned English through our partnership with Broward Public Schools
70% of program participants acquired employment or a better job
2,000+ individuals received nutrition education and food assistance
3,000+ clients participated in Citizenship classes through Broward County Public Libraries (HUF partner)
HUF was named 2016 National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Affiliate of the Year

We are honored to welcome two new board members to our Board of Directors. Both individuals bring valuable experience and expertise, as well as a passion for service in our community.

Congratulations to Catalina Avalos, Barbara Grevior and Lily Pardo, who were awarded Emeritus status! We're grateful for your support and commitment to HUF's mission over the years!

HUF Staff Attend The 2017 UnidosUS Annual Conference

From July 8 -11, HUF staff attended UnidosUS

(f.k.a. NCLR) national conference in Phoenix, AZ. UnidosUS was founded in 1968 and has grown to be the largest civil rights group in America with over 300 affiliates across the nation and a staff of nearly 150 people.This year's conference consisted of four days of the most thorough and cutting-edge workshops addressing critical issues in the Latino community, and presentations from speakers of national and international prominence.

Congratulations to Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty (MAAC) on being recognized as the UnidosUS 2017 Affiliate of the Year. With a 70,000 client base, MAAC's ongoing dedication to the families and individuals of San Diego provides opportunities and access to necessary tools for self-sufficiency.

Registration for Citizenship Classes Now Open!

Taking the steps towards citizenship can seem daunting, but you don't have to do it alone. HUF can help you achieve your American dream! Our citizenship classes will provide you with the necessary tools to prepare for a successful interview.

Register Monday through Friday, from 3pm to 5pm at Hispanic Unity of Florida. Orientation is on Monday, August 7th from 6pm to 8:30pm. Classes begin Tuesday, August 8th. Share this information with someone who can benefit!
