Staff Spotlight

The Clear Creek Independent School District is recognized throughout Texas and the Nation as a school district where students excel in the area of fine arts. This recognition has been earned under the leadership of Dean Muths, Director of Visual and Performing Arts. After 37 years with the District, Dean and his wife Liz will be retiring. We congratulate and thank him for his endless contributions to our students and the District!

2013 CCISD BOND UPDATE
More than three years have passed since Clear Creek ISD voters approved a $367 million bond program. Since that vote in May of 2013, there have been many accomplishments. The District is now pleased to have completed 28 of the 40 projects on our timeline.  The Clear Creek ISD Facilities Services Department says as of August 31, 2016 Clear Creek ISD has completed or awarded 98.2 percent of all projects approved in the 2013 Bond referendum.

2017-2018 ACADEMIC CALENDAR
The Clear Creek ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2017-2018 academic calendar during the regular meeting on December 12, 2016.  The most noticeable change in the calendar is the official start date of August 21, 2017. By law, public school districts may not start the school year until the fourth Monday of August. However, since Clear Creek ISD is a District of Innovation, it is authorized to work outside certain legislative mandates, including the law that governs the start of the school year.

Additionally, elementary summer school dates recommended and approved by the board are as follows: June 5, 2017, teacher work day; Summer school, June 6 - June 28, 2017.

The 2017-2018 academic calendar can be viewed by clicking here or at www.ccisd.net.

MORE THAN A LETTER GRADE

The Clear Creek ISD Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution in opposition of the new A-F rating system of schools in Texas because it creates a false impression about students, ignores the unique strengths of each school and unfairly reduces each student's worth to the school's assigned grade.

The A-F rating system relies heavily, 55%, on the results from students' State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) performance, which is a one-day snapshot of an academic portrait.

At least 16 states have implemented similar A-F rating systems and, to date, there is no definitive research that suggests these ratings have improved student or school performance. The approved board resolution calls on the legislature to repeal the rating system and develop an accountability system that empowers school districts to improve.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Every morning in front of Ralph Parr Elementary, before the first bell ever rings, there's one thing you can almost always guarantee you'll see - Dennis Schoening. Proudly dressed in his Ralph Parr Elementary T-shirt paired with a patriotic red, white and blue hat, Schoening has become an important part of the school.
No job is too big or too small for the 75-year-old League City resident and proud grandfather. Schoening began volunteering at the school when his granddaughter, who is now in 7th grade at League City Intermediate, first began attending Parr in 2009 as a kindergartener. But beyond being a loyal volunteer and grandfather, Schoening is an advocate for public education and through his volunteer work, aims to do whatever he can to help both the students and teachers.  Every morning, Schoening puts the skills he learned as a volunteer firefighter to use by helping direct traffic to make sure every child is safe as he greets them and even helps the smaller students manage their heavy backpacks.

But Shoening's day of volunteering doesn't end after the first bell rings. He also helps organize the science lab, giving teachers more time to teach, and also helps students in different grade levels with their reading.

"No matter what he does, he's an asset to Parr Elementary," Principal Jane Kelling said. Thank you, Mr. Shoening, for all you do!
DISTRICT OF INNOVATION
Clear Creek ISD joins a growing list of Texas public school districts that have earned the distinction of a District of Innovation after the CCISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the plan on November 28, 2016.

THE LAKE SHOP
There are few things more valuable to students than the opportunity to apply what they're learning in the classroom to real life experiences. A nd that's exactly what DECA students at Clear Lake High School are doing through their new and improved school store.  Before, the group operated their school store out of a space no larger than a storage closet. Today, the store, which has been dubbed The Lake Shop, looks like a professionally run store.

On December 8, members of Clear Lake High School's DECA organization hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for The Lake Shop.  Located in the new portion of the high school, which is still a work in progress, The Lake Shop is "just the tip of the iceberg" of where Clear Creek ISD's faculty and students are headed as this $104 million campus rebuild project nears its November 2018 completion, Superintendent Dr. Greg Smith said.
