Welcome to Christ Lutheran e-news, a weekly electronic newsletter which highlights programs and activities of our congregation. Feel free to .

Pastor Bourret will soon be calling folk with invitations to participate in the prayer-writing workshop on July 29. A few courageous souls have already volunteered. How about you? Consider it an opportunity not only to contribute to the worship of Christ Lutheran Church, but to strengthen your own prayer life as well. (It's impossible to compose petitions concerning the world's troubles without becoming more prayerful about them yourself.)

The workshop will run from 9:00-11:30. There may be refreshments.
Music Notes
Tom Berryman, Music Director
Big thanks go to Gail Weston-Roberts, mandolin and Jim Nail and Scott Carlson, guitars, for their superb musical leadership in our Sunday, July 16 service.  We are really fortunate to have such fine musicians in our congregation willing to share their enthusiasm and skills with us.

Trumpeter, Chris TenEyck will be playing for our service on Sunday, July 23.  Chris is a regular member of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra and has played for us numbers of times over the past four years for worship services and for concerts.  It will be a real lift to have the trumpet join us on Sunday ' s hymns:
"
The trumpets sound, the angels sing, " " O Holy Spirit enter in, " Now thank we all our God, " and " Lord, dismiss us with your blessing. "

CLC Book Group

Over the summer the group is reading Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick , an historical account of this country's early settlement by Puritans and their ensuing conflict with the Indian natives who peopled this region. The resulting King Philip's War which raged throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, ranks as the deadliest war per capita on US soil. South Natick's Praying Indians were swept up into this conflict. Fighting took place in nearby Medfield. Our church now sits in this once-inhabited Indian territory. What do we know of its history? Join us when we discuss the book Monday, August 7, at 7:30 pm at the church.
Bible Study

Led by Pastor Richard Hurst, the Bible study group meets each  Thursday  at the church. We invite you to join with us as we gather for coffee and refreshments at  9:45 a.m.  in the Memorial Room so that the hour discussion/study can begin promptly at  10:00 a.m.
Youth News
Nate Pearson, Youth Director
Hello Church! It has been a wonderful week of rain and sun! All local vegetation, including our garden, are vibrant and verdant! What a blessing!

We will be celebrating the blessings received by our natural world
on Saturday the 29th when we go for a walk through the Needham town Forrest. We will have a picnic and meditation surrounded by trees and return to church. We will meet at 10:30 at CLC and return at 2 pm. Bring a lunch! See you then!
Call to Action
The volunteer chart for CLC's upcoming Family Promise host week, beginning July 30, is gradually filling up, but it's vacation time for several of our regulars, so please, if you are able, find a spot to support this core ministry of our congregation. A 90-minute introduction and training session is offered this Sunday, after worship. Contact Laraine Marthinsen with questions.

Sunday, July 30, will be Bach Sunday at CLC, when we'll hear and sing music by the greatest Lutheran composer. Invite a friend!

Looking Ahead
Did you miss the follow-up meetings concerning the parsonage? Speak to Pastor Bourret or John Whitlock if you would like to see an additional meeting scheduled; or, if you have a question you'd like answered, or an opinion you want to voice, those are welcome, too. The Resource Commission and Council intend that, at the congregational meeting set for September 17, the congregation will make a basic decision on keeping and improving the Lincoln Street property, or selling and replacing it.
On Sunday, July 23rd, we celebrate the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost. 9:30 a.m. Worship, Pastor Rebecca Bourret preaching and presiding.
READINGS FOR THIS WEEK
July 23, 2017, Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

The parable we hear this coming Sunday is about a field in which both wheat and weeds are growing-which is a way to describe the church, the world, and even ourselves. Come to worship, so that hearing the word and eating the supper of the Lord can nourish your "wheat" and stifle your "weeds."

Sing For Joy
Enhance your understanding of the weekly scripture readings by listening to Sing For Joy http://www.stolaf.edu/singforjoy/ from St. Olaf College.  The Sing For Joy radio program, produced by St. Olaf College , has a simple mission: to explore the weekly themes of Christian worship by providing the best in sacred choral music and thoughtful commentary. The musical performances eloquently "do the talking," while the concise remarks from host Pastor Bruce Benson illuminate the meaning of the texts.
