Every May we are amazed by the fact that the school year is nearly over.  June will begin in a little more than a week; and the current year soon will be history.  For young children, time appears to move so slowly; but for us adults it speeds by.   However, we know that the time the children spend here at MCNS gives them enormous opportunities for development; and, as we observe them throughout the year, we never cease to be astounded by all the growth they sustain.  When we think about how quickly the growth occurs it really is amazing.

We know this has been a year of stimulation, enrichment, and growth for all our children.  Every year is!   We are thrilled that we have been witnesses to their progress and have shared their joys and delights at all the various activities and events that this year has brought them and us.

We look forward to the final few weeks of the school year, the warm weather that should allow us to be outdoors more, and the year-end activities, culminating in the class events during the last week of school.  Speaking of outdoors, the terrace parapet re-construction has been completed.  The final component of the project, the chain-link fencing that will be attached to the top of the wall should be finished in the next two weeks.  If all goes as planned, we finally will be able to use the playground by the second week in June.  We, of course, have been very disappointed that the entire renovation project has taken so long, particularly when we first were told that it would be finished by December 2014. However, the length of this kind of project never can be predicted with complete accuracy.  Still, we now are confident that the perimeter walls around the playground area are solid and safe. We also are looking forward to using our newly-painted climbing structure.  Peter Bulow, who has worked so diligently to sand, prep, and paint the structure has said that the construction  has caused damage to some of the painted areas.   However, he indicated that the damage can easily be repaired.  We think that everyone will be thrilled by the new look of the structure!  As you might have expected, the plants and trees in the garden area and planters are almost completely destroyed and will have to be replaced during the coming months, an unfortunate and sad situation.

In the meantime, we are focused on our major and final fund-raising event, the  Auction and Pot-Luck Dinner on Thursday,  June 4. Jessica Wahlstrom, Anna De Milt, Amy Kail, Katherine Nolan, Kim Williamson, and Yi Shaun Yang, the planning team, have been working diligently planning the event and securing donations, as have many of you.  We have been so impressed with the dozens of fabulous donations that will tempt everyone.  We know this year's event will be a success.   This edition of the MCNS NEWS is being sent to all of next year's new families to let them know that they are welcome to attend this exciting and fun-filled event.  We look forward to seeing all of you at the auction!

As soon as we receive information about the next renovation project (the sprinkler installation), we will distribute information about our summer program. At the moment, we are assuming that the program will begin on July 6.  That could change, however; so we are trying to confirm the renovation dates before distributing the enrollment materials. Because the summer has an extra week, the program, even with two less weeks, will be nine weeks. As always, families may enroll children by the week and/or day and are billed only for those weeks/days that children attend.  Both Louise and Gina will be providing their music and movement sessions during the summer along with yoga classes with Deborah Bailay.  We always have plenty of space during the summer, so there is no reason to worry that the late enrollment will affect accessibility.
