What's new with SACSA?!
August 2017 SACSAlert

Hello SACSA Members,

I hope everyone enjoyed the summer and I can't believe it is over for some. We, at the University of West Georgia start classes on the 9th. Despite summer coming to a close, I must say it was a very productive one for SACSA. We completed two institutes with NASPA Region III, developed a new opportunity for graduate students - the SACSA Presidential Scholar Internship - which is further explained below, made progress on our Strategic Plan, advanced our Social Innovation Task Force, and developed a new branding campaign to be revealed at the conference. The conference team has also been hard at work creating a great experience for our members. I hope you have registered for the conference and reserved your hotel room as the conference is only a few months away.

Matt Varga, Ph.D.
SACSA President

SACSA is excited to announce the development and implementation of the SACSA Presidential Scholar Internship. The Presidential Scholar will work one-on-one with the President (currently President-Elect) of SACSA for the duration of the President's term (November 2017-November 2018). The purpose of this experience is to provide a master's student with a unique professional development opportunity.

The deadline is drawing near! Submit your Proposals by August 16th for consideration in SACSA's 2017 Research Grant Award and Dissertation of the Year competitions!

SACSA 2017 Research Grant Awards
SACSA encourages scholarly inquiry among its membership by annually awarding small grants to advance proposed research projects. Any individual or research team may apply for these competitive grants. The average award granted a single project is $500. However, the selection committee may choose to award funds in excess of this amount to grant proposals they feel are exceptional. Multiple research grants may be awarded in a given year depending on the availability of funding and the discretion of the selection committee.

SACSA 2017 Dissertation of the Year Award
The Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) annually presents a Dissertation of the Year Award (DOY) to recognize high quality research by doctoral students in student affairs in the SACSA region. The award recipient(s) will be honored at the Fall 2017 SACSA conference with a small monetary prize. Prize money is intended to supplement the cost of registration and travel to the Fall 2017 SACSA conference where the recipient(s) will be given a session in the program schedule to present the results of their dissertation research. The DOY award winner(s) is also encouraged to submit an article about the research for possible publication in the College Student Affairs Journal within a year after receiving the award.
