Windows into Heaven:
Praying with Icons
Throughout the centuries Christians in the east have written and used icons as a way of seeing a timeless God in a particular moment in time. Over recent years icons have come into a fuller use in the western Church. Special emphasis will be given to icons with Advent themes such as the Annunciation, Madonna and child. Join us for an interactive exploration of our faith using this most ancient and visual form of prayer.

VESTRY NOMINATIONS

Have you ever considered running for vestry? Now is your chance! We are currently requesting names to be submitted for Vestry Nominations. You can email the names in to the church office or put them in the basket provided in the narthex. If you are submitting the names of others, please make sure you have their permission first.

The twelve members of the vestry are charged with the care of the property and business of the church. Working with the rector, they exercise leadership in the development of the congregation. Requirements are: having been confirmed, at least 16 years of age, a giver of record, and have been a member of St. Luke's for at least 6 months. There are 11 monthly meetings, generally on the third Tuesday of the month, and one vestry retreat. Please make sure you are able to attend these scheduled events.  Before nominating anyone to be on vestry, please make sure you have cleared this with that person first!

How to Read the Bible
There are two categories of people who read the Bible: those who read for spiritual encouragement and knowledge, and those who study it from an academic point of view. Is there a way to bridge the gap and benefit by the best of both worlds. This perspective on Bible study is sorely needed, especially here in the Bible belt. The study will be based on material from the book by the same title  by Harvey Cox, Harvard Divinity School professor.

Children's Formation: Pageant practice will continue this Sunday in the church.

Thank You St. Luke's for Your 2016 Christmas Store Support

The PHCC Outreach Ministry, Food Pantry "staff", and all of the families who benefit from the Food Pantry want to thank everyone at St. Luke's who participated in the success of the 2016 Christmas Store at Park Hill Christian Church.  Your help, whether it was through donations of clothing, toys, books, games, or household items, assisting with set up, or keeping this outreach effort in your prayers, contributed to the overwhelming success of the 2016 Christmas Store.  PHCC Outrea ch Ministry is so thankful for the partnership wi t h St. Luke's in this ministry.  Through this partnership we were able to, once again, serve over 55  fa milies who "shopped" for their children.  For many of them, these gifts will be the only ones their children receive.   It is an extreme pleasure for Park Hill Christian to partner with St. Luke's for outreach and local mission.  Together we are stronger and can serve more.  We sincerely thank you and appreciate all you do to help support this particular project every year.  The Christmas Store is an excellent example of the real meaning of Christmas.

Central Convocation Epiphany Service

St. Mark's in Little Rock will host an Epiphany service for the Central Convocation on Jan. 6. Music will be provided by a choir drawn from the churches of the convocation, and the preacher will be Rev. Stephen Hancock from Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. The traditional entrance of the Three Kings forms the centerpiece of the service, and the candle-lighting reminds all to "go into the world in the power of the Spirit."
