Sketching out a career: Artist Bob Staake makes his mark

The cliché of the starving artist implies that one cannot easily make a living following creative pursuits. Illustrator, designer and author Bob Staake is a true counter to that notion.
One of the nation's most successful illustrators, Staake's clients have included
scores of multinational companies, from McDonald's and American Express to Nickelodeon and the Cartoon Network. His images have graced the cover of the The New Yorker scores of times, and he has authored and/or illustrated more than 70 books. And he has done the bulk of this work from his home in Chatham.

Cape Cod Five named SBA Lender of the Year to Women
The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank has been awarded the Massachusetts Lender of the Year to Women by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for fiscal year 2016. "This designation is especially important because of SBA's national commitment to women entrepreneurs through several different initiatives," said Robert Nelson, SBA Massachusetts District Director. "Cape Cod Five approved its largest percentage of loans to women compared to 22 other lenders in this category for a total of $503,000 to Women-Owned businesses according to our data." The Center for Corporate and Professional Education awarded $122,000 to provide free employee training
Cape Cod Community College's Center for Corporate and Professional Education (CCPE) is about to begin presenting workplace training sessions on "Communication and Conflict Management, Building Effective Working Relationships and Teams: Strategies for Results-Orientated Communication across Cultures and Generations; and Time Management and Productivity." The resources to support these programs, that are free to qualifying employers, come from $122,000 in State Direct Access Program funds awarded to CCPE to provide training to eligible businesses and organizations in the Cape Cod/South Coast/South Shore regions.

Devil's Purse Brewing Co. to release Oyster Stout made with Chatham Shellfish
Freshly harvested oysters from Chatham are featured in the latest batch of Intertidal Oyster Stout from Devil's Purse Brewing Company scheduled for release just in time for the holidays. The l
imited beer will be released mid-December to local Cape Cod pubs with a tasting festival at Chatham Bars Inn Dec. 29.
