On July 13, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events announced the 4th Annual Fifth Star Honors! ChiArts was buzzing with young scholar-artists this summer! Over 100 students from our three summer camps (Exploratory, ChiArts Jr., and Summer Dance Intensive) completed their final showcases this past July.

We are thrilled to welcome new hires in every conservatory and academic department. From an Oboe to Journalism instructor, our new faculty members come from diverse professional backgrounds and areas of the nation. With the first ChiArts class graduating from college this past spring, our outstanding group of incoming staff even includes four alumni!

On July 18, a group of ChiArts Musical Theatre and Acting Majors had a theatrical experience of a lifetime! Thanks to the generosity of ChiArts Board Member and Broadway Producer, John Yonover , scholar-artists spent an evening with the touring cast of Something Rotten . MORE...

Chicago Architecture Foundation's Gabrielle Lyon and ChiArts' Eye of the Cat Illustration team (Visual Arts Instructors Kayce Bayer, Devin Mawdsley, Chris Lin, and Alumni Deon Reed) officially launched their new graphic novel, No Small Plans! #1  Theatre Conservatory Major, Dina Perez, received a Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative Scholarship! 25 were given to students throughout the nation. 

#2  Damayanti Wallace (Creative Writing Major), Aisha June (Theatre Major), and Theatre Alum,  Kristyn Zoe Wilkerson, are interviewed by Teen Vogue for their activism through poetry. 

#3 New  Creative Writing faculty member, Sophie Johnson, publishes
"Horrible Phone Calls I Assume I'd Have If It Weren't For the Internet" in The New Yorker.

#4 Music Conservatory '13 Alum, J oanna Bajena, modeled for the 'Modern Elements' shoot with Harper's Bazaar Vietnam.
