We all know that our journey of life can at times be very challenging. As individual persons, as partners in a marriage, or as parents raising a family, knowing and living the Spiritual and Psychological principles for a healthy and effective journey are crucial. Kathie Amidei and Doug Meske have been able to clearly discuss these concepts in thier book, The Journey, which is currently available for purchase in the Faith Formation office.

See the newsletter for several Advent reources.

December 12, 2016
From the Desk of Ellen Knippel, Principal

Dear Parents,
Happy Third Week of Advent! Last week students and faculty worked on making our school a "Holy Mountain" (Isaiah 11). This morning we lit our third candle for Gaudete Sunday. It is the candle of Rejoicing! The theme for the parish this week is "Having a Panoramic Heart in a Selfie World". Ask your child how we are both "Rejoicing" and not being a "Selfie"!

I am so proud of how the students are working to "BE Prepared". There were 132 tags taken by our students from the Giving Tree this week - this doesn't include the tags that were taken as families! Thank you parents, for helping your children to understand this ministry.

Continued Advent Blessings!

Mrs. Knippel

Classroom Corner
Students are enjoying the after-school Brixology Class. Last week, they explored bridges.
Each child built a bridge at school and also were given a kit to build a truss bridge at home.

Chess club participants improved their capture skills by playing each other in a tournament.
They also can test to earn chess "belts" or bracelets that range in color similar to martial arts.
St Nick's Spirit is Present!
5th grade: Last week we talked about Advent and created advent chains to help count down the days to the coming of Jesus. Each chain has a prayer or action for the day which we talk about in class and focus on our own personal preparations.
I am so proud of this class and everything they have done for others in the last week. They are so driven to help and inspire others and, in the process, they have truly inspired me.  On Tuesday , we delivered handmade gifts and chocolate kisses to the 3K, 4K, and 5K rooms and, just yesterday, wrote personal notes to our 2nd  grade buddies.
~ Ms. Zahn
Service Club: Service club participants have been very busy. They made placemats for the Young at Heart Christmas Party, helped decorate the school, are doing a book drive, and made soup jars for the homebound as well as for our school staff as a St. Nick surprise.
Kindergarten: Shared the gift of music by singing songs for the Young at Heart Christmas Party last Friday.
