Fall Issue                                                                                                         December 12, 2016
After 36 Years Jan Elby Continues as One of the
MHANJ's NJ Mental Health Players Favorite Starlets
(Left to right)  John Rogers, Director of the MHANJ's New Jersey Mental Health Players congratulates Jan Elby, a 36+ year volunteer actress for the program.
If you want to be engaged in a performance before an actress even utters a sound - catch Jan Elby in a presentation of the Mental Health Association in New Jersey's New Jersey Mental Health Players.  The ONLY, TRUE remaining charter member of this volunteer troupe from 1980, Jan's 36+ years of experience and additional theater background go far in making her an effective communicator about emotional issues. What makes her memorable is her own engagement in the process of acting, teaching and sharing to help break down the stigma of mental health.

"I always say I have learned much more from our audiences than they've learned from me. The fact that we can get them to look into themselves - question and share what they are feeling about a topic - is amazing. As non-clinical people we can be even more effective than if we were psychologists, doctors or whatever," Jan explained

We paid Jan a visit to celebrate her 90-years-young birthday. We wanted to learn more about how her incredible drive and commitment as a volunteer evolved through her commitment as a Player.   Click here to read more.
