President's Report
Camden City School District
Paymon Rouhanifard, State-Appointed Superintendent of the State-Operated School District of the City of Camden, shared an
update that focused on Signs of Progress and Camden High School.
New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional and Character Development
Dr. Philip M. Brown, Founder and Past President of the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional, and Character Development (NJASECD) presented an
overview of their efforts in New Jersey. Joining Dr. Brown was
Dr. William H. Trusheim, NJASECD President and representatives of
North Plainfield High School.
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan Presentation
NJDOE staff provided an overview of the State plan requirements, updates from the federal government as well as stakeholders; and district guidance and support. The spring state plan submission date was moved from March 6 to April 3, 2017.

State Board Actions
State Special Education Advisory Council
Mary Ann Comparetto, Director, Parent Programs, New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education (NJCIE) and Dr. Dorothy Van Horn, Immediate Past President of New Jersey ASAH and Past President of the National Association of Private Special Education Centers (NAPSEC) have been reappointed to the State Special Education Advisory Council for a two-year term, effective December 7, 2016.
ESEA Unsafe School Choice Option
The State Board adopted the resolution revising the Unsafe School Choice Option (USCO) Policy, pursuant to The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (Act) of 1965 SEC. 8532, as reauthorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015.

Superintendent, Ventnor Public Schools
(Type I District) as
a new member to the State Board of Examiners.
Fiscal Accountability, Efficiency & Budgeting Procedures Second Discussion:
This item was tabled for Jan. 4, 2017.
The State Board was to discuss the amendments to the regulations pertaining to Tuition for Approved Private Schools for Students with Disabilities proposed at N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-18, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:36A-12 and N.J.S.A. 18A:4-15.

On Tuesday, December 6th, Governor Chris Christie filed with the State Senate the nominations of
Public Members
to the State Board of Education. The Governor's nominations are subject to the advice and consent of the State Senate. The Governor also filed the direct appointments with the Secretary of State's Office.
