COMMUNITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING
Faculty and students in the Community and Regional Planning program extent warm wishes to everyone for happy and restful holidays!

Among several final projects in CRP courses this semester, students in the CRPL 472/872 Hazard Mitigation Planning course reviewed and suggested updates of components in hazard mitigation plans for four Nebraska cities— Beatrice, McCook, Wahoo and York.  Course instructors Dr. Zhenghong Tang and Jeff Henson provided guidance for students to analyze community demographic and economic conditions, critical facilities and key infrastructure and “at risk” populations, as well as identify strategies that could be employed to reduce vulnerabilities in the communities.  Student teams met with officials in each of the four cities to gather information and discuss possible mitigation strategies.  While the course project involving these four cities focused on academic goals and did not result in plans being submitted to state and federal agencies for review and approval, it did help the cities refresh outreach and planning efforts that were initiated during the past five years.

INTERIOR DESIGN
We made it! The last week of Fall 2016 has arrived (and so has the cold weather). I am proud of the work each studio presented this past week. I find that the end of semester studio reviews are a great opportunity to take a minute and recognize all the growth that has occurred over the course of 16 weeks. To me, the work pinned up and the ideas embedded into the drawings and models are a testament to the hard-work, commitment and passion our students and faculty have for the discipline of design and the pursuit of learning.

From all of us in the Interior Design program, we wish all of you a wonderful break and a happy new year!

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
Happy Holidays everyone! Eat, sleep and be merry…next semester begins in only four weeks!
ARCHITECTURE
Final reviews are over and as we wrap up the semester I would like to thank everyone, faculty, students, staff and external partners, for making this a great fall for the Architecture program. This was the second semester in which we organized a compressed and intensified final review schedule (all reviews in 3 straight days) and I am convinced this is a positive change for the program. The energy level is noticeably higher and the reviews seemed more like a celebratory and intellectual event than a simple the end of a studio. New this fall was the public Design Thesis review scheduled along with the other studio reviews. I found this to be a welcome addition, and I believe students did as well. All that stands between us now and Winter Break is exam week, so once that is over, I wish you all a pleasant and relaxing break, and I look forward to seeing you in January for the new semester.
