San Francisco Giants Update

The Giants Brandon Belt, seen above crossing home plate in the second of the four-game Battle of the Bay Series with the Oakland Athletics, is out with a concussion, having been beaned on Aug. 4 in the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. San Francisco Giants Update:
It was a week of ups-and-downs for the San Francisco Giants, who went 4-3 for the week amidst ongoing roster changes. The Giants split the Bay Bridge Series with the Oakland A's before taking two out of three against the Arizona D-backs. Friday night's game saw a scary moment at AT&T Park, with first baseman Brandon Belt getting hit in the head with a pitch from the Diamondbacks' Anthony Banda. On Saturday Belt, who has a previous history of concussions, was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list. To fill his roster spot, third baseman Pablo Sandoval was called up from Sacramento for the first time since rejoining the Giants organization. Sandoval made his return to AT&T Park on Saturday, going 1-3 with a double that would spark a comeback for the Orange and Black. In other roster moves, outfielder Jarrett Parker was activated from the 60-day disabled list, while infielders Jae-Gyun Hwang and Conor Gillaspie were optioned to Triple-A. Reliever George Kontos also left the team after being claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Monday the Giants continue their home stand against the defending champion Chicago Cubs before traveling to the East Coast to face the Washington Nationals.

Oakland Athletics Update:
What was long-projected finally became a reality for the Oakland Athletics, as both Sonny Gray and Yonder Alonso were traded. Last Monday, the day of the non-waiver trade deadline, Gray was traded to the New York Yankees for three prospects in return; infielder Jorge Mateo, outfielder Dustin Fowler, and starting pitcher James Kaprielian. Fowler and Kaprielian are both currently sidelined with injuries, but the Athletics hope to have them ready for next season. All-Star Yonder Alonso was traded to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday in a waiver trade, after Alonso was not moved by the July 31 deadline. In exchange for their starting first baseman, the Athletics received first baseman Boog Powell. Powell was originally drafted by the A's in 2012, before being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015 in the deal that sent Ben Zobrist to Oakland. On the field, the Athletics went 4-3 this week, splitting the Bay Bridge Series with the Giants and taking two out of three on the road against the Angels. Sunday afternoon, the A's came back from a five-run deficit, scoring five runs in the eighth inning to steal the rubber match.

Playing for the San Jose Cagers Blue club team at the End Of The Trail Summer Swoosh Championships in Irvine, CA Krissy Miyahara showed why she will be expected to be a key shooting threat for the Monarchs in 2017-18. In a July 28 pool play game against Emerald City Basketball Academy Swish Black of Seattle, Miyahara set a Cagers Blue club record with 10 3's, on 10 of 13 shooting. She finished with 30 points as San Jose topped ECBA, 78-65. The Cagers Blue team is coached by Mitty varsity coach Sue Phillips, who called her "Clutch" in a congratulatory tweet that evening.
