New Roofs Underway at Roxbury Schools
With summer in full-swing, the Board of Education has turned its focus toward the various projects taking place in the school buildings during the summer.
The high school, Eisenhower Middle School, Kennedy Elementary and Lincoln Roosevelt Elementary are all getting roof replacements. Also at the high school, renovations to the girls' locker room shower are happening. Franklin Elementary School in Succasunna is also getting a window replacement.
Board member James Monaghan in his Facilities Committee report stated that painting jobs are happening all over the district this summer during July 24th board meeting. Click here to read more about that meeting from the Roxbury Register.
Two RHS Students Accepted into NAFME
Kristin Andlauer, senior on French Horn in the Orchestra and Kathleen Walsh, senior on the euphonium in Concert Band prepared additional advanced level audition material on their own which helped get they accepted into the National Association for Music Education All National Ensembles.
Their applications and audition recordings were evaluated by top professionals and selected from hundreds of other applications from students all over the country. Mr. Conrad shared, "I have had the pleasure of working with both these students in some capacity since they were in 6th grade. I can tell you without reservation that these two students are not only exceptional young musicians, but more importantly, are exceptional young women as well. I am certain that Kristin and Kathleen will represent our program, school and community with pride this November when they travel to the NAFME National Conference and Concert in Orlando, Florida!"

Broadway Bound Campers Hit the Stage for Peter Pan Jr.!
Roxbury Community School's Broadway Bound hit the stage on Friday, July 28th for a summer performance of Peter Pan, Jr. With more than 60 students in the Broadway Bound and Behind the Curtain program, students delved into the theater world to learn dialogue, music, set design and more during this three and a half week program.
Friday's evening performance was shared with more than 600 people including family and community members.

Roxbury's Little Green Thumbs Grow
Roxbury's youngest population had a chance this summer to watch their hard work grow into some yummy fruits and vegetables in the Roxbury Community School's Garden Club for Preschool through fourth grade at Kennedy and Nixon School.
These hands-on camps allowed children to learn gardening basics, techniques, and practical skills for gardening in the spring and summer. Participants harvested some lettuce and other veggies to bring home to their families during their time at camp along with tips on gardening and composting at home!
Summer is a time to watch plants flourish, maintain crops, plant a second crop rotation, and harvest produce such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and more! Students helped provide proper nourishment, water, and cultivation to ensure a great harvest!
When they weren't working in the garden, they were working on small projects to add to the garden like painted rocks and scarecrows.

Library card can now bring the library to you
In today's world, the library is so much more than books for anyone with a library card.
MAIN, Morris Automated Information Network, is an organization that's kind of going through a bit of a renaissance the past couple of years. Their homepage, mainlib.org, is a very simple website.
MAIN is a consortium of 38 public libraries located in Morris, Somerset and Warren Counties. MAIN's mission is to lead and encourage collaboration, resource sharing, staff development and innovation by providing high quality, cost effective shared services to member libraries for their communities. MAIN aspires to help member libraries and the communities they serve to readily access a rich spectrum of resources.
The latest technology available from MAIN this summer is thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks available by cloudLibrary Bibliotheca. Library users can download the app free of charge anywhere at any time in their preferred app store. Once the app is installed to a device such as a cell phone, there is a simple, one-time sign-in process which includes selecting the user's local library followed by entering the library card barcode number. Users can browse for books in less than a minute. Content is stored on the device itself, meaning no data charges are incurred while reading or listening after the download is complete.
Click here for more information about MAIN. Read the full Daily Record article
here!
Call the library at 973-584-2400 Ext. 501 or e-mail comments@roxburylibrary.org for general info and information on registrations or appointments as necessary for some programs.
